You're right hammb....Briles isn't as good of a candidate as Jinx. Glad we didn't hire some kid based solely on his last name.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I bet this guy is on the staff. In my search of Pardon it turned up his wedding site of all things and he and this guy are close. http://tlubulldogs.com/staff.aspx?staff=19" target="_blank

I wonder who else was on the short list. Rumors will probably come out.

The motivation and recruiting ability need to be coupled with the right scheme and from the looks of it we'll be staying with something unique and innovative that separates us from the pack and something that can be directly recruited to. Our OC is presenting at the Dallas Glazier Clinic with sessions titled "TLU Multiple Read Spread Offense: Air Raid Our Way" and "TLU Multiple Read Spread Offense: Tempo & Packaged Concepts (RPO's)"

Texas Tech's version of the Air Raid offense with Jinks was more productive than ours last year. The DC hire will be the key because Ward was exceptionally good at fitting a bunch of disparate pieces together and making it work.

I wonder if Jinks will hire a top Ohio high school coach to give the staff some connections in-state. The Florida recruiting ties need to be preserved as well. We might be getting PJ Fleck with a better scheme and without the goofiness and self-promotion.

Former Texas Lutheran QB on Padron: "Our offensive coordinator (Andy Padron), he’s hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had...Just the plays he gives us and he’s a smart guy and knows the defense.”

"A doctor, a lawyer and a Lutheran?! And the Air Raid offense?!

I predict undefeated seasons for the next 5 years.....best hire ever!!!!!!

Why isn't the guy starting until after the bowl game? Seems like he needs to get here and get recruiting.....everyone who leaves here doesn't wait until the bowl game is over????

I don't have a problem with him recruiting in Texas....I do have a problem with our coaches leaving before bowl games and everyone agrees that's just the way it is now.....unless there is some type of buyout I'm not aware of, he should be done with Tech and getting things taken care of for BG.

Oh well....he's so good he probably can coach our team from Texas next year and we'll still dominate! Just put practice on periscope for him and set up his face on an iPad with a bullhorn in front of it. Is it too soon to offer the guy a raise and an extension???? He's earned it with all that Texas recruiting he's doing!!!!

BG's old coaches are coaching the bowl and recruiting is a dead period starting the 14th. You guys want him to start installing his offense in the 2 weeks?

I'm sure he's already working on recruits. Not much else he can do besides getting his staff together. Herman stayed at Ohio State through the middle of January last year. Worked out ok for everyone.

1. The old coach from BG who Cuse hired to be the head coach isn't coaching the team in the bowl game, because he's in upstate New York taking care of things.

2. Tom Herman was coaching OSU with a chance to win The National Title.....Tech is playing in the Advocare Texas Bowl. Sorry not the same.

I just don't like it....I'm sure he'll be getting things going while he's down there, but I think he should say his goodbyes and focus on BG now.

I don't see it as a major issue. TTU's Bowl game is Dec 29th, only a bit over 2 weeks away. Plus personal things like family (kids probably still in school another week down in Tx)...

I also like that he's staying at TTU to finish the job/season. It's a sign he might stick at BG for more than a season or two and continue building a successful program.

Again....

1. Obviously Babers isn't. The rest of the staff is. Ward (who was in Mobile yesterday, doing the prebowl press), Monroe, Lynch (Running backs coach), Lewis, they are all coaching and prepping for the BG bowl game beginning next week.

2. Every assistant who takes a head gig stays and coaches with the team he came from. Because there is literally nothing for him to do other than get his staff together. What exactly is there for him to concentrate on? Scoping out which neighborhood he wants to live in? You can't recruit from 12/14 - 1/13...he will put his staff together while prepping Tech.

I can guarantee you as soon as Jinks got the job he called certain guys he wanted on his staff. He then started recruiting. He flies into BG and will probably leave the Stroh, today and start visiting recruits all over the state for the next 4 days. I can assure you, he is working on BG during the 20 hour days he is currently working.
