Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
This site has him fairly high when compared to a couple guys below him IMO.
Anyway, they have him as the 13th QB with a round potential of 5-7. I think that would be fantastic!

That site tends to miss the mark more often than not but their comparison makes sense. I would bet he gets a chance and wouldn't bet sticking somewhere as a backup. I bet he goes undrafted though.

IF Matty doesn't make it in the NFL, I think he would clean up in the CFL.

I think that would be a good career path for him.Falconfreak90 wrote:IF Matty doesn't make it in the NFL, I think he would clean up in the CFL.
I don't see Matt Johnson in the NFL. The offense at BG is a MAJOR knock on any QB. That's true when guys are coming from Baylor, Cal, and Texas A&M. For a guy to come from that system at Bowling Green, and to also possess way below desired measurables? I just don't see him as a draftable prospect.
Production was obviously off the charts, leadership is unquestioned, but I just don't see him as a real prospect. Could he go late in the draft? Sure, at that point it's a crap shoot with any QB and hard to say which teams will fall in love with which player, but I just don't see it. I wish him the best, would love to see a BG QB make it, but I'm not sold.
And that WalterFootball ranking is absurd. Hackenburg and Jones still in his top 5 QBs? That would shock the hell out of me. They have Wentz at 7th? I wouldn't be that surprised if he's a 1st rounder and one of the first 3-4 QBs off the board.

Re: Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
I agree with you on Matty but I never know anymore. I would bet his comparisons are Kellen Clemons http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/i ... ase-keenum" target="_blank and Case Keenum http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/i ... ase-keenum" target="_blank. I would have said everything you said about Matt about them and they are carving out decent NFL careers.hammb wrote:I think that would be a good career path for him.Falconfreak90 wrote:IF Matty doesn't make it in the NFL, I think he would clean up in the CFL.

In regards to Hackenburg and Jones. I don't know a thing about Hackenburg but I fully expect Cardale to be up there. His measurables will be too great and there will be guys who think they can get him back on track. "Didn't fit the OSU offense"

The kid can make all the throws necessary in the big leagues. He should get some good looks. Reminds me of Charlie Fry of Akron a decade ago that played a little NFL ball.

Re: Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
I think Hackenberg keeps showing up high on these lists because he is a pocket passer/pro-style QB. Think NFL teams will always see those type of QBs as a "safer option" compared to the mobile/run option or "system" QBs

Re: Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
He isn't quite big enough unfortunately.....his arm strength is adequate but not plus and his accuracy is overrated because of better than average receivers and MAC defenses. If he was 6'3" he'd probably be a 4th or 5th rounder....he'll sign as a free agent and get cut in OTAs or training camp. He'd be better off transferring to a Big 5 school and proving his ability against tougher competition...he may have a chance to improve his stock by doing that.

Kinda has to apply for that 6th year first and get it approved. No guarantee he gets it if he applies. No guarantee he applies for one eitherapollo wrote:He'd be better off transferring to a Big 5 school and proving his ability against tougher competition...he may have a chance to improve his stock by doing that.

And I'm guessing the fact that he's already committed to the NFLPA all-star game makes all that mute, irregardless.*BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Kinda has to apply for that 6th year first and get it approved. I don't think he's going to be any taller in a P5 conference....

Re: Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
MJ needs to try to get back for a 6th year so he can:
1. Beat OSU
2. Win 3rd MAC Title
3. Win 3 titles for 3 different coaches.
4. FINALLY beat Toledo.
5. Shatter every BG passing record.
6. Give us one more year to let Knapke not be bad or some other guy to get ready to play.

Re: Matt Johnson - NFL Draft
Unless Matt impresses at BG's pro day, I don't see him really having much of a chance of getting drafted, let alone playing in the NFL. I'm sure someone will sign him as an UDFA and invite him to rookie camp to see what he can do, but outside of that unfortunately I think his ceiling is rather limited at the next level.
