Jinks presented Alfonso Mack with a scholarship yesterday while he met with the team...good way to make a positive first impression.

LOL that is awesome.Schadenfreude wrote:Dave Hackenberg made me laugh out loud with the reaction of Coach Jinks' wife to moving to Bowling Green.
“I was looking at the Weather Channel page, and it said the forecast for Bowling Green was freezing fog,” Meredith recalled. “I said, ‘Mike, did you know fog froze?’ It sounded more like a super power.”

And man was that weird. We got that freezing fog stuff for like 2-3 days in a row last weekend. Pretty odd, even for our weird weather, to see it over and over again like that.
Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Thank God for the Todd Walker interview or we'd know nothing about the staff, recruiting or the adjustment from Texas to Ohio. The two TV guys who asked the first questions should have just kept going if nobody else was going to. The indifference continues to be a massive disservice to the fan base. A more seasoned media presence might have addressed these issues himself or just started asking and answering his own questions. "Do I think recruiting Ohio and Florida is important? Yes, and here's how I'll do it." He said they'll be open, accessible and embrace the Ohio coaching community while also noting that it doesn't necessarily mean he'll hire people with direct experience in the area.OptionQB wrote: There are million questions that COULD'VE been asked, but weren't
Jinks' enthusiasm and energy were clearly evident. He has all the elements that make a coach successful at this level:
-Organizational skills to build and manage an entire program
-Exceptional recruiting ability
-Background in an exciting, effective offensive system
-Ability to lead and motivate
That's what we all wanted to see and this guy checks all the boxes. It continues to amaze, however, at what lengths we go to pretend that this is not FBS Division I football and winning doesn't happen to be all that high on the list of things that matter to us. If other schools in the MAC had the same mindset we'd be fine, but unfortunately they're all trying 24/7/365 to surpass us and proudly stating so, mainly to recruits. This blase public attitude towards competitive success from our leaders is ridiculous, as if forswearing a lack of ambition to win somehow makes them morally superior and separate from the pack of knuckle-dragging rubes who want something so crass and unsophisticated as a winning football team. There's certainly nothing wrong with emphasizing character development, and such pursuits are surely and unquestionably worthy and admirable. We'd want nothing less as a community. It is baffling why this can't be mentioned in conjunction with championships and winning, and why such words and concepts are seemingly treated as if they are toxic and uncouth when coming from the mouths of our leaders. Kingston nibbled around the issue when hinting at "to whom much is given much is expected" and Jinks being a man that "pursues excellence," but why beat around the bush with generalities? We've won 2 of the last 3 MAC Championships and have every intention of winning more. They shouldn't be afraid to say that.
Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Did anyone else get the impression that Mike Jinx did not actually apply for the BG job, but was instead contacted by BG about it? After reading the articles and watching the video, if I remember correctly, he made some sort of a comment about his AD telling him there was interest from BG in him about the position.
GO BG!!!
Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Another thing I think is critical with completing the coach staff is finding a great candidate with strong Florida recruiting ties. Yes I know we're very likely going to start hitting Texas much harder in recruiting, but we have developed some extremely vital inroads throughout the state of Florida and it has produce huge results. I think it's going to be critical to this program to make a concerted effort in making that a priority. Can you imagine how beneficial the results could be with strong efforts coming out of Texas, Florida and the Ohio/greater Ohio area?

You'd be surprised how many people get jobs this way, typically via headhunter firms. I've certainly received interviews and job offers to places I've never applied. If you've got what an employer wants, they'll come calling.BGSU33 wrote:Did anyone else get the impression that Mike Jinx did not actually apply for the BG job, but was instead contacted by BG about it? When I was a wholesaler in P&C Insurance I would get calls like that. Within the course of doing your job you might meet someone who thinks you actually know what your talking about. They pass that along to someone who asks them if they know anyone who seems to know what they're talking about and BOOM! , you have a reputation for knowing what you're talking about.
I get fewer calls now that I'm in the background of financial services

Per coachingsearch.com...Kevin Kilmer is going to be your offensive co-coordinator and Marcus White will be Dline and co-defensive co-ordinator.

Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Both hired from the Texas Tech staff. What's interesting is that Kilmer started following both Andy Padron and Perry Eliano on Twitter sometime around October. It seems that Jinks was getting the band together early in anticipation of getting a head coaching job.
Here's a great article on Eliano...very highly-regarded coach who's excited to come to BG and "is going to skyrocket" according to Coach Jinks:

BG may have the youngest offensive coaches in all of FBS at this rate.
Jinks is also bringing along OL coach Stephen Hamby and former NFL/CFL QB Seth Doege as a graduate assistant.

Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Babers had his team from EIU and Jinks looks to be following a similar path with his guys.
It will be very interesting to see who is hired to provide the roadmap for Ohio, Florida, Chicago and Michigan. The newspaper articles in both the Blade and the Sentinel actually did a great job of hashing these things out and getting some nice quotes.

Thats awesome. She sounds like she has just as much personality as coach Jinks. The First Lady of Falcon Football.Schadenfreude wrote:Dave Hackenberg made me laugh out loud with the reaction of Coach Jinks' wife to moving to Bowling Green.

Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
I'm aware of it happening in the professional world as my wife gets calls like that often, but I wasn't as aware of it happening in coaching as much, especially from a guy like Jinx with no head coaching experience at the collegiate level. I do remember hearing something about that happening with Terry Bowden at Akron. I remember reading something about how he wasn't even looking at the Akron job but while coaching at North Alabama the Zips came calling. But of course, he had a lot of previous head coaching experience, especially as the head coach at Auburn. I just found it a little curious about Jinx that if he indeed wasn't looking at BG, what exactly made them look to him?jpfalcon09 wrote:You'd be surprised how many people get jobs this way, typically via headhunter firms. Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
I assume that this is actually how it's done. That the schools have a short list and the schools call the coaches. To me this isn't a surprise at all. I assume that's how Jans got hired. Probably Huger too.
