Re: Mingo leaving team
What delusion is there? SOS is out of the hands of the team. Pairwise certainly benefits those who play in conferences with more consistent programs and who are able to schedule non-conference teams who have a history. There's still a lot of time for the Pairwise to shake itself out and every college hockey fan will tell you that.apollo wrote:footballguy51 wrote:If beating bad teams doesn't hurt your RPI, then why aren't these "elite" teams scheduling against the WCHA? If we're so bad, they should be able to beat us no problem and their RPI wouldn't be affected by it. The truth is, those "elite" teams don't want to schedule against us because they know we're just as good if not better than them. Settling it on the ice would only prove that fact. There it is....there's the delusion of BG Hockey fans.BGFan wrote:On top of that, teams like Notre Dame, UM, and MSU want 2 for 1 deal which is why we won't schedule them. If they don't agree, screw 'em.
You bring up rational points and here's what you get.
1. Talk about the Strength of Schedule....the reply is Pairwise and SOS mean nothing in December.
2. Talk about the lack of scoring....you get the goaltending in the WCHA is the best in the history of college hockey and everyone traps.
3. Talk about future scheduling.... you get the Big 10 sucks, they won't schedule us because they are scared we'll beat them.
The lack of scoring is from many reasons. You're not going to recruit top notch athletes in a conference like the WCHA. College hockey is getting better but it's still well behind the junior leagues in terms of overall talent. Teams in the WCHA need to work almost doubly as hard to get kids who are good enough to play at the D1 level and who will put their programs a notch above everyone else they play against. As for the style of play, when you lack talent you need to dumb the game down and play a boring style. Lots of teams do it across all levels of hockey. Coaches are copycats and take what works. Playing 2-1 games with tight-checking and neutral zone traps works because it keeps the games close. The NHL is festering with teams like this.
Bigger schools aren't scared they'll lose to us, they simply don't want to travel to what they perceive as a smaller venue with little to nothing to gain from it. What incentive does Michigan have to play BG until BG can prove it can get in the postseason consistently? This is half the reason why the B10 and NCHC formed, to gain control of schedules and influence who they would play. BG should be treated like an equal but they aren't because of this superiority complex. Before we had to play Michigan and Michigan State because they were conference members, now they don't have to deal with it anymore and don't want to deal with it.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

I now recall why I had you blocked before. In the court of public opinion we are ranked 12th in the nation by people who know much more about the college hockey landscape than you ever will. You apparently can't accept that and I seriously don't believe that your opinion would change if the CCHA still existed and we were doing this well as your soul purpose in life appears to be to argue for the sake of arguing. Thus, I will likely be blocking you once again since I really don't need your negativity.

Mingo was off the team more than he was on. This loss isn't as big as some people feel. Yes, we're already short defenders, but we were without him anyways more or less.
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: Mingo leaving team
Don't worry about BGFan....he's busy on the uscho fan forums with the other WCHA lovers discussing how great each other's team is and fighting with the Big 10 fans about 2 for 1 scheduling. (He doesn't make any factual points over there either).
Re: Mingo leaving team
I'm pretty concerned with losing Mingo. We were already hurting at depth on D. Yes, we've added a couple guys mid-season, but we're still only an injury or two away from a complete defensive crisis. He wasn't getting a lot of minutes lately, but he was putting in strong shifts and doing a lot to help maintain possession when he did play. Plus, it's always good to have a skater that fast on the roster to help generate advantageous match-ups.
I have to wonder if there were more academic struggles that led to less playing time and the switch to the Walleye rather than an on-ice issue. Either way, it's a shame to lose a skater that good in mid-season.

Delgadillo is back this week which should be a boost to the D corps, however Ernst may not play due to a minor injury.
