Bowling Green, Ohio - This Saturday the BGSU Men's Basketball team will face Arkansas- Little Rock at 1:00 p.m. in the ESPN Bracket Buster game. This Saturday is also Greek Challenge II. The greek organization that brings the most members will receive a prize from the BGSU Athletic Department. Each greek organization must sign in at the Falcon Gazebo in the lobby in Anderson Arena. Don't miss out on your chance to be on ESPN and win a prize from the BGSU Athletic Department.

FREE PEPSI AND POPCORN FOR THE FIRST 500 STUDENTS

The first 500 students at Saturday's ESPN Bracket Buster game will receive a voucher for ONE FREE PEPSI and ONE FREE POPCORN courtesy of the BGSU Athletic Department.

I was in a frat during my college days. I think that the frats and sororities are an excellent, untapped avenue for putting a$$es in seats. The Greeks are generally well organized, move in large numbers, and are attracted to activities that can help the school while getting their names out in the process.

I love the idea of having a Greek Challange, just as long as they don't get in before the rest of the students

I think this is something that should continue next season. Do it many times during the year and for many different sports. Perhaps a traveling greek spirit award could be established. One for each sport and then a big overall award. You could have three different catagories; IFC, PanHel, and other organizations.

I don't know about during the fall, but of the winter sports (BBall and Hockey) they always have a greek day. It's ussally once per season.

My brother is in a fraternity (I won't say which one), and the night after we played Marshall in football I asked him if he was there and he told me that he and his fraternity brothers watched the game on TV because it was "too cold." Now it was a bit nippy that day, but certainly not cold enough that anyone would have to dress in multiple layers. I lambasted him for his fraternity's lack of school spirit and he told me I was out in left field.

Then, at the Toldeo game a couple of weeks later, I noticed that UT fraternities not only go to football games, but carry their letters on poles as well. It really gets under my skin that a craphole school like UT gets more greek support for their athletics.

You'll have to forgive me, but it is going to take a lot more than a greek night or two to turn this situation around. I actually think that this is our biggest problem with attendance. Our greek community, which is supposed to be one of the great bastions of school spirit, doesn't give a damn about our athletics. Why should the rest of the student body?

I don't even know how we would go about correcting a situation like this it is so sad. If anyone has any ideas, please post them.

Don't call the fraternity a "frat"! Do you call your country a c#nt?

I always thought that was funny when a frat member would say this.

The greek organizations used to take their flags and large numbers to The Doyt in the early/mid 90s. When I was about 12 or so in the early 90s I was an "honorary" member of one of them because I offered to hold the flag for a group during a quarter. The endzone bleachers used to have 2-4 different greeek groups there with the flags flying.

OK guys,
I know I always wind up bringing up the "old days", but the Fraternities and Sororities used to have their pledges go ahead of time, especially to FB games, to "reserve" seating sections for them. And I would guess that well over 50% of the members attended those games ALL THE TIME.

I was NOT a "Frat" member (since someone thinks that's a terrible term to use), rather a GDI...but I was always impressed by the spirit shown by these groups...I guess in a way it WAS a competition...sad to say that we now have to MAKE it a competition to attract the kids... then again, we didn't have cars on campus (at least no freshman did)..and we stayed ON CAMPUS for the majority of our entertainment.

Sorry for the "preaching"...but, like everyone else, I don't understand WHY kids just can't enjoy the things put out in front of them.

freddie and frieda will be beheaded at halftime. for once, i daresay, it's probably not necessary to have some type of promotion to get kids to the games. folks show up to see the birds.
