It's gonna be a LONG eight months

Post by BGSU33 »

Tonight sucked like hell. But what's gonna suck even harder is we now have to sit on this performance for eight...long...months. And then guess who's waiting for us? Ohio State in the opener. Ugh. Really tough to see a very good season end this way.

Not for me. Every 4 days or so my 2015 MAC Champins t shirt will be clean and I'll pull that baby on and remember the all time great careers of Matt Johnson, Travis Greene and more!

Bah... we have March Madness (this is the year, baby!) Then it's time for spring ball and then baseball season starts. I'm far more worried about the Tigers than BG football... what if VMart really is shot and the Verlander of Aug and Sept 2015 was a mirage? That could get real ugly real quick.

Before you know it September will be here and we'll have a few "fire Jinks" threads going

You completely failed to mention the second half of the WCHA season. If you're not aware, check out the standings.

I do fear VMart is completely washed up...still shocked they gave him that contract at his age/health. I think the best you can hope for is a rebound to a powerless .300 or so average. The nice thing is he does take his walks and work counts so he should put up a decent OBP, but I still feel as though they paid him for the power of the '13 season that was a total anomaly in his long career. I expect him back to hitting some key singles and doubles, but my god is he a slug on the bases.

I'm not too concerned about JV. He needs to learn to pitch with his rear-back velocity being 95-96 instead of 99-100. That's still a power arm, and his secondary pitches have typically been as good as anybody's in baseball. I think he lost that fb velocity and while he was worrying about that his secondary pitches went to crap. He seemed to get them back the 2nd half last year (finally brought back that 12-6 curve that has always been devastating).

I'm worried about the pitching behind JV. Sanchez seems on the downslide, Zimmerman is an ok 2/3 starter that should eat innings, but none of those guys are Price/Scherzer. And of course we're really banking on some of those prospects we got back from Price to pitch well. I really hope Fulmer ends up in Toledo, would love to see a top flight prospect play an entire season there, we so rarely get any talent from Detroit.

We're gonna BADLY miss Cespedes too. Our OF options cannot really hit or play defense. And while they've added a ton of bullpen pieces, who knows how they'll pan out...we always seem to miss on everything we try there.

Sorry PDT..my hockey brain is focused on Detroit. Go Wings!!!

Agree with hammb on everything Tigers.... if Ilitch hadn't gone off the deep end and threw waaaaay above market money to VMart and Prince (paying $6 mil a year to Texas to take the lard ass off our hands ) we could be players for Cespedes or Gordon.

I think it's telling that some BG fans are focused on baseball right now...I mean, baseball? Ugh. I'm talking MLB, here, and not college. I stopped watching that sham sport a long time ago.

And it won't be that long (as the original poster stated). Yeah, it sucks to end what was otherwise a good season that way, but it happens. Especially to BG, it seems. I basically have zero expectations for bowl games, anymore, and especially when there's been a coaching change.

But I will take a MAC title every two years, even if it means getting waxed in the bowl game that same season. Those trophies don't go away just because you lost a meaningless, made-for-tv matchup in some Southern (or Western) wasteland.

Don't worry, a couple of BG-Akron basketball matchups, should give you plenty of posting options in those 8 months. Long live the streak and the posts regarding it.......

I don't follow hockey, could care less about MLB, and the NBA doesn't get interesting until the Playoffs. I love college hoops, but unfortunately BG's idea of March Madness differs from its MAC peers. While every other MAC school has won the MAC Tournament - including tournament titles from every MAC East team since 2007 except BG. So while other MAC school's alums, students and fans experience the joy of the NCAA Tournament, BG's number of people who weren't even alive since BG last went to the Big Dance continues to grow. So yeah, it's gonna be a long offseason.

While I love football almost as much as I love hockey, I'm looking forward to some time away from the game. This was a special season regardless of the bowl game and I'll be wearing my MAC Championship hat all year long, but like anything in life you need to be away from something to truly miss it. I'll pay attention when the recruiting season starts up and also to see what guys like Lewis end up doing but it'll be nice for a break and a chance to get to the ice arena.
