Re: Babers group recruitng
Dino saying "I won't recruit any BG commits unless they decommit" is a little weasely... like Jimmy Carter saying "I'm not going to mention Chappaquiddick " when he ran against Kennedy in 1980
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Babers group recruitng
Disgusting, but on the bright side it shows why they have next to no chance of winning in the ACC. Instead of stealing recruits from Florida State and Clemson they steal them from us. Low class and ultimately self-defeating to boot. The Syracuse fans that follow recruiting understand this and are none too pleased with Babers and this approach based on their comments.
Will the Syracuse punter set a school record for attempts as ours did in 2014?

Right. I'm sure Syracuse was getting top notch recruits to amass their 4-8 record this year, that lowly BG recruits would be a big problem for them.

Dino, true to form, continues to use the BG football platform.

It's definitely bush to recruit guys from the school that you just left......it isn't surprising to me that Dino is doing it though....it won't matter much. He'll make his money and get fired 3-5 years from now. Football is all about haves and have nots. In the MAC Bowling Green is a have, in the ACC Syracuse and Wake Forest are a have not. Neither Dino or Clawson are good enough coaches to overcome that (in all honesty there are probably only about 2 dozen coaches in college football who are good enough to turn those situations around). Dino's system will get him a couple upset wins over his time, but he won't be able to do it week in week out. Plus let him take our commits, we really owe him....he brought us that awesome fence around the football practice fields.

Re: Babers group recruitng
Clawson took over a complete mess here and patiently built a winner. I think he'll do well enough at Wake if they give him time. Dino? Don't know if he can build a program because he stepped into Clawson's. A lot of talent leaves this year and next.... will Dino's guys be ready?

Re: Babers group recruitng
The Syracuse people are upset because a couple of our former "commits" being romanced by them didn't have other P5 offers. They want to get into the game with 4 star guys and don't want to settle for two star and borderline three star players as they often did before.
Sporting News published the 247 recruiting rankings in their last magazine and BG was 9th, significantly behind WMU and others. Yes, we got Morgan and a couple transfers that were highly regarded but top down 1-25 in the signing class we lagged behind. Dino was a barely adequate recruiter in relation to his peers and I think we'll be much better off with Jinks.
We have 2 spots left on the nine man staff not counting graduate assistants. Former Booker T. Washington coach Tim "Ice" Harris is available from the former Miami staff and would be a great Florida recruiter. Given Jinks' background he could hire a couple big-time, well known high school coaches from Ohio and Florida that know those respective regions...even some with BG connections. Chardon's Mitch Hewitt perhaps?

Re: Babers group recruitng
As we all know, the recruit ranking system is extremely flawed as we've seen this season with Robbie Rhodes hardly even touching the field after all his high school accolades. However, Babers' biggest knock is that he hasn't built a program and that should be concerning to Syracuse fans.mscarn wrote:The Syracuse people are upset because a couple of our former "commits" being romanced by them didn't have other P5 offers. Re: Babers group recruitng
The only consolation of having Babers steal recruits from BG is the negative reaction of his new fan base towards the practice and his regime generally. A sampling of the comments from Syracuse.com/orangefootball stories:
Entirely MAC coaching staff + MAC recruits = ACC? Must be new math.
This class is looking like a bust so far, I hope they prove me wrong on the field but the lack of power 5 offers for these new babers recruits concerns a lot of fans. Maybe it's just the lack of connections this new staff has right now, so they're naturally falling back on 2 star kids who they know were "get-able" at bgsu instead of reaching out to some higher ranked kids who were unobtainable to them when recruiting at bowling green
Its clear Babers and his staff do not seem to have the confidence or the gravitas to go into the homes of 3-4 star recruits and make their case. They only are comfortable going after recruits of the MAC level. These kids he is recruiting will get killed by FSU, Clemson, ND, Miami
Babers is showing he isn't ready for prime time more and more each day
2 star recruits? We are going backwards people. Backwards. NO 2 STAR RECRUITS!
At least we haven't seen any 1-stars yet
There is opportunity to play immediately at Safety and this is the best Babers can do? A 2 star recruit with offers from Bowling Green and Purdue? A backup option for Toldeo and Wake? This is not a Power 5 level recruit, not a difference maker. Oh right... But he "fits the system". What a joke. I am less impressed every day with Babers. Pathetic!!!
Syracuse - Hires a winning MAC coach who was #3 choice of the AD. He hires 6 coaches from his current MAC staff and 1 other MAC coach no one admittedly ever heard of before. The one coach with P5 level experience quits after 1 month on the job. 2 Star recruits are all that appears to be signing at SU. Season tix sales are non existent and is anyone really excited deep down with this change? Was it an improvement?
Doesn't it seem that we are all trying hard to convince ourselves that hiring Babers and the all MAC staff he has put in place was a major improvement to the program?
gh, Brian Ward as DC is absolutely terrible! This guy's defensive schemes got run all over at the MAC level and when he faced Power5 teams the scoreboard read 59, 44, 44... points and 545, 610 totals yards and so on. He should have been fired at BG as coordinator, never mind hire him at SU!
Babers has shown a blind sense of loyalty, or does he only know how to operate in a small pond and doesn't know many coaches outside his circles?
Both Wake's and NC St's head coaches had success in the MAC, and both WON, and used, MAC Championships to springboard their way to an ACC top job. Both have losing ACC records. Neither has ever had even a .500 ACC season in league play. They have losing ACC league records in EVERY ACC season they have coached.
Baber's needs to break out of the MAC mold, and shake up his staff.
Bowling Green East. This is the ACC, not the MAC. Babers has been unimpressive.
Babers is the MACdaddy. If SU was in the MAC I am sure Baber's could guide SU to a conference championship.
Cronyism AND nepotism. Well done, Dino.
this is starting to be a joke, all MAC at a Power 5 school,,,,Coyle better be looking for his next job in two years
Pretty unimpressive.
Beatty obviously didn't think much of Babers. Ominous sign for SU football.
Its a little disconcerting that the entire staff is Bowling Green members. Something happened or didn't happen in Beatty's mind to make him switch.
This is a big setback for Babers as Beatty was to be the big VA/DC mid atlantic recruiter, now that's a major void. Plus he was the only outsider on Babers staff, wonder if the "Babers boys network" caused him to flip his decision? Babers staff is too heavy on BG assistants
Wasn't firing Shafer supposed to be an upgrade for the program?
This is looking like a lateral at best move as all Babers knows how to do is go after 2 stars and people he recruited at BG. This is an upgrade? AD Coyle is looking like a fool each and every day on the job.
Another 2 star recruit. Sweet!
Maybe Coyle should have done more to make that deal with Frost. Frost is already killing it in recruiting. Frost is getting kids with Power 5 offers to verbal his non Power 5 school. Babers is getting kids with no power 5 offers to verbal his Power 5 school.
With the hype Babers has received, incl., some favorable national press, I really thought he could leverage all that into actually picking off some nice recruits (he did get 1 - the kid from UVA) from the teams I mentioned. So far it looks like mostly cast offs from the MAC.
To date I am VERY disappointed with the hire of Babers! I was expecting some nice surprises with recruiting and some quality assistant coach hires.
I like Coach Babers and his hiring but I'll be honest, I was hoping he'd take the opportunity to bring in some new blood as well rather than just bring all his BG staff, I understand loyalty but I was hoping he pluck some others from other staffs besides Beatty.
I was NOT impressed with the Bowling Green game against Georgia Southern. Terrible tackling and this is what we have to live with in the future.
I thought Babers would use an ACC budget to hire an ACC / Power 5 staff.
Compare Babers hires to Maryland where DJ Durkin hires 3 ex head coaches who ran defenses and offenses at P5 level. Durkin went outside his current circle to hire experienced coaches at this level
SU gave Babers an ACC budget, he should hire ACC COACHES, not just promote and give pay raises to his buddies

Those Syracuse people think a lot of themselves putting the Mac down. How many Mac assistant coaches did Urban Meyer take with him to Utah and then later Florida seemed to work out pretty good for him.
Re: Babers group recruitng
Doesn't say much for the perception of BG and the MAC over in that neck of the woods - Or Dino Babers for that matter.

Re: Babers group recruitng
Funny thing is we are 2-0 lifetime against Sorrycuse and both games were in NY and not close. They struggle to beat MAC teams most of the time and we would have kicked their ass all over the field in 2015. Arrogant fans whose program has done nothing in 15 years.

Re: Babers group recruitng
I stand by my initial thoughts that it is impossible to win at Syracuse. They have some tradition of winning in the Big East that no longer exists. They're now forced to compete with more perennial football powers and southern schools in the ACC. Reading that list of complaints is hilarious because they are right. You won't win at Syracuse by stealing BG and lower level Big 10 recruits.
I wish Dino all the best, but I don't think it's an easy place to recruit to.
