From BG NEWS Dec 13 1966
"Maybe those Big lOers just aren't in our league," quipped a fan after Saturday's game, and it just could be. Bowling Green rolled to an 81-69 win over Wisconsin for its fourth straight victory of the 1966-67 season, and Its second victory over a team from the highly regarded Big 10. Michigan fell victim to coach Warren Scholler's hungry flock of Falcons a week ago by a 90-83 count, and BG fans are beginning to smell a national ranking. The Wolverines have topped both Houston and Davidson- - both national powerhouses--thus far in the short campaign, and Wisconsin dropped an overtime decision to Cincinnati (number 10 in the country). A beaming Warren Scholler told the whole story as he strolled through the noisy locker room. "Walt (Piatkowski) really did a great job out there," and perhaps Scholler was guilty of an understatement. Just for a starter, Piatkowski casually dropped in 10 of l«;hisfirst 12 points, getting them off to an early lead.
Though they failed to hold their lead the entire contest, Walt was again the big gun when the Falcons did manage to regain the lead in the late stages. The 6- 8 forward wound up with 31 points for the night, and just might have earned himself a starting position for the remainder of the year (that's a joke, son). His scoring bursts came at the start and finish of the game, and following the contest Piatkowski explained why he tapered off in the middle. "We hit the man that's open," he said, referring to the fact that several other Falcons were in better positions to shoot than he. Among those that were undoubtedly open at least part of the time were fellow forward Carl Assenhelmer and guard Rich Hendrix. Each finished with 14 points. Bowling Green took an early lead, faltered In the middle stages of the first half as the teams alternated, holding the upper hand several times. The Badgers finally got down to business and assumed a seven point spread at the half, 39-32. Wisconsin managed to hang on to the lead throughout the opening minutes of the second half, but Howling Green's offensive thrust through the last 10 minutes of the contest proved enough to not only match, but finally overpower the Badgers. Scholler, natu ral ly pleased with the win, offered praise for Wisconsin and coach, John Erlckson. "They're a solid, strong team, and well coached," claimed Scholler. "They'vt got a Iotta moxle, a lotta fight." A review of the official game statistics reveals that the Falcons led on paper as well as in the final score. BG connected on 32 of 72 field goal attempts, 44 per cent, and 81 per cent of their free throws (17 of 21). Wisconsin managed 38 per cent from the floor with 30 of 79, and nine of 19 foul shots, good for 47 per cent. The Badgers amassed 20 personal fouls to BG's 14, but did manage to top the Falcons in one category: rebounds. Though Al Dixon led both squads with 17, as a team, Wisconsin outfought Bowling Green on the boards, 71-54

Wow...150 shots combined generating 125 rebounds...that's a shot every 16 seconds. That's a really fast pace....I wonder if that was typical for the times.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
