Babers group recruitng
Re: Babers group recruitng
He's not a good enough coach....if BG had to play the MAC West they wouldn't have made the championship game. Babers wouldn't have been on my radar if I was a P5 AD. The only MAC guy I'd consider is PJ Fleck. I know he's a d bag, but he's proving that he can recruit and I think that will translate almost no matter where he goes.

Re: Babers group recruitng
We beat 2 out of the top three teams, and only finished the season with one loss in the MAC. Last I saw all the MAC West teams had 2 losses at the top, and NIU got in based on tie breakers. The only teams we didn't play from the West this year was Eastern (Win) and Central (I would have picked BG to win.) We could have made the Championship game. As far as Babers as a coach, he has been successful everywhere he has been. Yes he has had loaded rosters to work with, but his offense can succeed at Cuse. Will it is a different story. It sucks that he is poaching his recruits to BG, but that is the nature of the game right now.apollo wrote:He's not a good enough coach....if BG had to play the MAC West they wouldn't have made the championship game. As far as MAC coaches, I would have looked at Babers, Campbell, and Fleck, as well as the NIU coach who's name is escaping me. All of them have the ability to succeed, but may not be going to an environment where it is possible.

I would not go for PJ Fleck. He's all flair. He gets the "Number 1" recruiting class each year and then manages to go 7-5. His antics on the sideline are good for 7th graders but seem childish and pointless at this level. A P5 school that would hire him will have made a horrible decision.

Moving from the FCS level to a P5 school in four years suggests otherwise. Typical negative nonsense we've become accustomed to on this board.apollo wrote:He's not a good enough coach....if BG had to play the MAC West they wouldn't have made the championship game. He's going to have to prove he can recruit at Syracuse to be successful, other than that he's more than proven himself to be a capable coach.

Re: Babers group recruitng
Babers should be able to succeed no matter where he goes with the correct players. After watching watching Baylor etal a few times, it became apparent that his statement is easy once committed. However, and that is a big however, what seemed to be missing on the O side was adapt to change. As the season wore on, it seemed we only had 3 plays, Travis run, Dieter on the short side and Lewis streaking down the side. We lost the quick snaps, going over the middle for passes.
Also after watching the baylors, they did mix up the plays more but also had a defense that could make the needed stops. That is where dino had issues and unless he recruits at cuse he is going to continue to have issues.

I should have specified....he's not a good enough coach to turn that situation around. He'd do fine in a situation like BG where he has better facilities and a competitive budget. Syracuse doesn't have those advantages compared to the rest of the ACC.
I stand by my statement about us being in the MAC West....between facing a healthy NIU and CMU we'd have lost at least one of those games.

Ok.....enough is enough and I go to let it out! I am sick and tired of googling Bgsu football news to find out it belongs in a Syracuse recruiting article. And it seems quite a few were defensive players that would have worked well here. 2 stars

Not sure WHY these folks are bitching. I checked out scout and rivals. While they only show 11-12 verbals, all but ONE are listed as 3 * . And based upon dates of verbals , only a kid from St. Eds is a 2* that Babers + co. Have recruited since taking over. This kid might have been a former BG target, but NONE of others are showing up so far.
OTOH , noticed that App. St. Has offered afew MC kids, including 1 BG and 1 TU.

Are they not supposed to do that?

Not necessarily. Falcons were 3-1 against the West this year, and 2-1 against the division's three best teams. BGSU is the MAC champion. This fact implies supremacy over the West, as well as decent coaching.apollo wrote:He's not a good enough coach....if BG had to play the MAC West they wouldn't have made the championship game.

Oh he's a decent MAC coach, but he's not going to outcoach many people at that level. He isn't going to recruit well enough to make up for that....Schadenfreude wrote:Not necessarily.
