A week from today is the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft.

via Josh Norris(@JoshNorris) on Twitter. He has been informed that Roger Lewis is declaring for the 2016 NFL Draft.....as expected.

Very disappointed to hear this. I wish him all the best because I'm afraid he's going to need it.sum1udontknow wrote:via Josh Norris(@JoshNorris) on Twitter. He has been informed that Roger Lewis is declaring for the 2016 NFL Draft.....as expected.

Yep...I think it's a mistake, but I sincerely hope he proves me wrong and enjoys a long NFL career.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Not surprised...best of luck to him but I don't see him getting drafted.

Saying you don't see him getting drafted is absolutely laughable to me. The same guy you probably cheered up and down all year and saw was so good, now isn't good enough to get drafted?? Why? because you're bitter he left? Because you think BG doesn't play on the scale of talent that's "draftable" .... Numbers and tape alone put him as one of the top WRs in the country declaring. Let's remember Antonio Brown played at CMU and wasn't one of the highest touted WR prospects either. I'm very certain Roger has more hype than Brown did coming out of CMU. Not saying he's the same player or will ever reach that success. But to say he goes Undrafted is a pretty bold and comical statement.

I'm not bitter at all, I wish Roger all the best and hope he succeeds in the NFL. I'm just basing it off what I've seen in games and from other draft analysts who say he has a lot to work on. Antonio Brown is a poor comparison as he played at CMU all four years of his collegiate career, he worked on things he needed to become the player he is today. Roger is going to need to land with the right team to be successful though. He got a lot of his yards on go routes and a lot of his catches on screens and comeback routes. He's going to need to show he can be more versatile at the next level because he's not going to be beating top NFL corners on deep routes every game. The NFL is a totally different game from college in so many regards that his stats need to be thrown out the window.sum1udontknow wrote:Saying you don't see him getting drafted is absolutely laughable to me. Speaking of Brown, Lewis would be a good fit in Pittsburgh as they like to run a lot of screens and deep routes. Seems like a logical fit to me.

Re: Roger Lewis eligible for the draft
Fair enough. I do agree he's not similar to Brown in any way as a player, just talking about his hype level and talent coming from the college level. I see alot of good and bad. He's not the crispest route runner, has lackadaisical drops at times, and isn't polished as far as the route tree yes. The one aspect he does have is that hes naturally gifted and athletic, fast, and makes the plays he probably shouldn't at times. As far as those things go, they seem to weight alot more in scouts minds at times because the other part is teachable for coaches. He absolutely needs to be the right fit for an offense to become the best player he can.
His combine will tell the story as far as draft stock and he has a very wide range as far as draft status.
Ceiling Late 2nd/Early 3rd
Floor 6-7th
I'll be absolutely baffled if he goes undrafted barring any legal issues/injuries during this process

Reading JP's posts over the years I highly doubt he is bitter at all and I'm sure he wishes the best for his future.sum1udontknow wrote:Saying you don't see him getting drafted is absolutely laughable to me. It's easy to see the risk IMO. For the first 3/4 of the season I thought Lewis looked like a player who could be drafted in the first 3 rounds. The last quarter of the season he looked more like a player who will be on the fringe of being drafted. Defenses made adjustments, he wasn't nearly as effective and let's face he caught a bit of the drop syndrome.
I've seen a lot of good receivers from BG do nothing in the NFL. Steve Sanders caught one pass for 18 yards for the Browns. Magner, Barnes and Sharon never played on anything but a practice squad. While I believe Lewis is more talented than those guys they were by no means scrubs.
He must believe he is currently good enough to make it and I hope he is right because he can't have this year or the next back now.

This is a great decision. His body only has so many years in it to make money. My prediction is he is a late third to a contender. Eventually ends up a stud number two wr in the league. He can learn to run crossing patterns making 400k a year.
Re: Roger Lewis eligible for the draft
Not necessarily....I'm assuming he's gotten all the info that the NFL tries to give underclassmen and that reviews are somewhat positive. If he gets drafted in the top 4 rounds, he'll probably get a solid opportunity. If he gets drafted later than that, it can be a crapshoot. When he gets to camp he better catch the ball, drops will get you cut if they didn't draft you real high.Globetrotter wrote:This is a great decision. I think he'd be a good candidate for the Lions, Raiders or New England (only way New England takes him if it's late 6th or 7th round)....Houston or Miami also need more athletic receivers on their roster, that could be a fit as well.
Re: Roger Lewis eligible for the draft
Roger is 22 yrs old, this is his best shot. He's not a 19 yr old sophomore.
Best of luck!

I wish Roger the best as well. Would have loved to see him stick around one more year but that's how it is. I hope he makes it.
