I was pretty much thinking the same thing at the game tonight. We were awful and so were the refs!!!!! It's going to be a loooooooooooooooog season!!! I was optimistic tonight because Akrons record was the same as ours. My optimism is rapidly dwindling!!!
Re: BG vs Akron
I agree about the terrible officiating, however the Falcons were their own worst enemy. We struggled on both ends of the court last night. Our offense was the most anemic I've seen all season. I don't ever recall our free throw shooting being this bad, not to mention our influx of bunny shots under the basket that wouldn't drop all night. On the flip side, it appeared to me that 80% of Akron's made shots were layups, but they made practically all of theirs. The other 20% of their shots were made from three-point land. It was tough watching the Falcons tonight, as it has been for the last year and a half. I am an optimist and a realist, but I don't see things getting better any time soon. I stated in previous posts that the Falcons' misfortunes start at the top. After watching last night's game, I'm convinced that is case. It was good to see Miriam's offensive output tonight, along with the fine play of Sidney Lambert. I believe Lambert, a freshman, is the best player on the team. If the rest of the girls hustled like Sidney does, we would accomplish greater things. Fundamental Falcon basketball was non-existent. I also noticed the team came back out to the floor with nine minutes remaining in the halftime break. Perhaps there wasn't much to be said in the locker room. These girls seem to have no motivation whatsoever, and that is the responsibility of the coaching staff. Nevertheless, we will continue to support this team to the end, and hope someone can flip the motivational switch this team needs. Go Falcons!

Gotta stick with the team thru thick and thin. We've won so much over the last 12 or so years it is a shock to see us struggle so much. At the OU game, I felt most of our players were afraid to shoot....waiting for someone else to lead. The staff needs to convey the need for leadership like we are used to.
I agree about Lambert...she is gonna be a star.

The shooting can be a problem with this team but overall for the season the ladies are only 1.5 percentage points lower than the opponents. Where the major difference is in turnover margin. BG averages 18 TOs a game and our opponents are closer to 13. Nearly a 60 TO gap year to date. The only player with a positive Assist to Turnover Ratio is Kirkpatrick. The lady color commentator on ESPN3 for the OU game specifically pointed out the lack of ball care and indicated that a bunch of passes were being telegraphed.factman wrote:The only thing worse than our shooting tonight was the officiating!

I agree about the turnovers and the lack of leadership. Offensively, we dribble way too much, we penetrate and kick out way too little, we have too many illegal screens, too many charging fouls, and too many shot clock violations. Bottom line is, we lack the basic fundamentals of a sound offense, and that comes from a lack of floor leadership. Do they even have team captains this year? Lambert will be a great floor general some day, but she has her hands full just trying to adapt to this level as a point guard. From what I see, we have good shooters on this team, but shooting is only one aspect of the game. We need to be proficient in many aspects, ball protection, rebounding, passing, defense, and shooting, to name a few. We are not a fundamentally sound team. But we will keep on keeping on! See you tomorrow, Falcons! Talons up!
