BG vs Toledo

Post by BGSU33 »

I really hope we have a great crowd for this one. Toledo has won 4 in a row over BG and we know what the streak is in football. BG is more than long overdue to beat UT in something already. We can't ask for a much better start in MAC play. We're coming off huge back-to-back road wins so let's keep this going and finally beat Toledo dammit!

Unless Spencer Parker has attended a BG softball or baseball game against the Rockets he has never witnesses a BG victory over Toledo. Basketball and football is a combined 0-8 during his time at BG.

Time to end this streak!!

We beat them at swimming....and track and field. Huger is really pulling this team together. Ish Ali is the best PG I've seen here since Pardon.

I remember when Kingston was hired he declared something along the lines of we're going to be beat Toledo. He stated it several times. Well since then, it's been crickets......No offense to some of the non-revenue/Olympic sports, but we don't play Toledo in hockey and we certainly haven't beaten them in football or basketball. Those are the ones that matter most to most people (not everyone, but to most of them). I think UT has even done well against our women's basketball team lately (I don't follow women's hoops, but still wish them to do well). I feel it's probably pretty safe to say our matchup with Toledo in football matters most to the masses. And they have owned us for six years now. Beating UT in basketball wouldn't erase what is going on in football, but it would end the 4-game losing streak vs UT and would be a win against them in something football/basketball related and would certainly be a start. We had a good crowd come out versus Cincinnati only to see us get slaughtered in the second half. I'm guessing we'll see another good turnout on Tuesday since we're playing well and didn't play UT at home last season. I hope we give them something to smile about after the game and hopefully they'll come back. GO BG!!!

Keep Boothe and Williams around 15 each and BG wins. Their freshman, Navigato, Sanford, will be intimidated for the most part, although both have a lot of up side. Mosley will be the potential X factor. Garber and Lauf usually play decent floor games (defense) but don't score much. :-k

Speaking of Baseball....I knew we were pretty good against UT, but I didn't realize Coach Schmitz was this good. Since 2008 BG is 15-6 vs Toledo. Not only that he hasn't had full scholarships since 2010 (Which is amazing that hasn't been rectified). Unreal that we've dominated them in baseball and hardly beaten them in anything else. Hopefully basketball can turn that streak around. Huger is doing a very nice job, this conference is amazingly wide open.

According to the booklet that they had out at basketball games, baseball is STILL two full scholarships short, which equates to a minimum of 4 players on scholarships in baseball, not to mention they only have two full time paid coaches from the department. It really is time to rectify this, not to mention upgrading the baseball facility.

Not to drift off the subject here, but a few baseball players told me the FieldTurf was supposed to have gone down last year. Any idea when that is supposed to take place? There was also the $1 million donation a couple years ago. I know that doesn't stretch too far nowadays, but the impression I got back then was we'd have seen some improvements by now.

They have plans for the field, stadium and surrounding area, but evidently haven't raised enough money yet, and want to do it all at one time. I believe a good share of that million $ gift is deferred, until donors death, but not positive.
