This team is garbage right now
This team is garbage right now
Well, that's now 5 losses in the last 6 games. Can't shoot, can't score, can't rebound but good at fouling and turning the ball over. That is a recipe for fisaster. All that talk of Huger being coach of the year now looks ridiculous. If the season MAC schedule was four games long he'd have gotten it. But it's not, and we've only won one game since. This team is sinking Iike a rock in the standings and is looking like a lock for one of the bottom seeds and an opening round road game in the MAC Tournament. These last two losses have been downright dreadful.

No question the team is struggling badly right now. But the perfect antidote is up next! Akron....at home.
The shooting is pretty lame these days.

Currently the 9th seed but we do hold the tie breakers over #10 and #11. Unfortunately the #8 seed and current team we would play is our nemesis Toledo

Huger called them out post game. He said that they practice well and then freeze when the lights come on and it's a challenge because if he yells at them during the game, they pout and go into a shell.
He's not Louis Orr...

Re: This team is garbage right now
I read he did that and I LOVE that he did that. And you're right, Orr would've just shrugged his shoulders and moved on. This team may have surprised us early on, but they've been brought back to reality in the last couple weeks. And it's now up to them now to pull through this. I don't see much hope whatsoever for this team this season, but times like this could be very important for the younger players later on in their careers here.Flipper wrote:Huger called them out post game. I'd like to bench a couple of Seniors, notably the one with 994 career points and the point guard who has not lit up the nets in the past 6 games. Start some different players and let the others play. I've not seen any promise from Gomez or Mayleben so don't even think of putting them on the court, but let's see Malik, Antwon, and Ish together.

Completely agree. Said it in another thread. We have 8 solid players right now in that rotation. The issue is we have no stars and no one who seems to want to be a star. If I had to bet who the best players are on this roster right now it would be Lillard and Wiggins. Someone needs to start playing like a stud. The supporting cast is there.HoopsFan wrote:I'd like to bench a couple of Seniors, notably the one with 994 career points and the point guard who has not lit up the nets in the past 6 games. The other problem is that while on the whole most of these guys are solid there isn't a one of 'em that we really can count on to show up as the same player on a game to game basis.
The whole damned roster can look good one game and then like they've never played basketball the next night. Cannot have a whole roster that plays that way. Even if we didn't have a consistent star it'd be nice if we had some damned role players that we could count on to perform on a game to game basis.
This team isn't going anywhere this year, but I never really thought that they would. We're seeing the product of 3 coaches in 3 years. There is no continuity of vision, no continuity of player type. And as coach Huger pointed out some of our upperclassmen chose to come here so they could be part of a ho-hum who gives a crap program and some still play that way. Kudos to Huger for TRYING to light a fire under them. Jans did it last year and the only reason that team won games was because they had an NBA talent in the center. No matter how great this current coaching staff is, it's gonna take time. The quick start this season let a lot of us up our expectations, but now the struggles as we hit the weekly MAC grind should not be surprising.

There's only so much Huger can do. Most of us thought the team would suck, and it's great that they got off to a nice start in the MAC, but like hammb said, the struggles of the last couple weeks can't really be that much of a surprise to anyone, can they?
Re: This team is garbage right now
A lot of these players were trying to leave, even after they actually won some games. Each year that passes, is one year closer to the program being rid of Louis Orr.

Well yeah because the only choice we have is between horse s**t or a championship. There's zero gradients in between.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: This team is garbage right now
There certainly is. And the last 2 losses are bad, we suck losses. Losing at home to bsu and any game against Miami is not acceptable even as we are growing. I think huger knows that.Flipper wrote:Well yeah because the only choice we have is between horse s**t or a championship. There's zero gradients in between.
I don't disagree with the title of this thread at all...we have been terrible of late. The only saving grace is that they did play far above expectations for a stretch to start conference play.
They must find a way to get out of this funk. I don't expect a championship but even for a first year coach developing the program a trip to Cleveland is the bare minimum.

Re: This team is garbage right now
After the first round of play, I think the opponents can figure out that Zack Denny and Spencer Parker are the guys to key on. It seems that the team somehow forgot that sharing the ball gets better results than the "I" play....
That being said https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=t ... mp=yhs-001" target="_blank
Who says there's no "I" in team
Anyway. Matt Fox got in the game at Miami, but his stat line was all zeroes. I see the offense where the PG, or player with the ball tries to force the ball into the paint and loses it, while a shooter stands like a tree on the wings. We start getting the ball to those players in the wings and it opens up the back door for the lobs. Seems simple enough, we just need to find some guards who can do the job. I know the game at Miami was over but it pizzed me off to see Joseph try to shoot a 3 instead of passing the ball to someone who could possibly make one. Yeah, it's still a loss, but what about the end of the Akron or Kent State or tournament finals? Each game should be something learned.
