Globetrotter, all I want to know is who really is behind these regulations and why when such as academic scholarships, given by the schools as well, have none other than maintaining a certain GPA. Just because they spend part of their time in an athletic facility vs a lab or a library? What's the difference a scholarship is a scholarship, whether the money comes from a donation by a booster or a prominent alumni as a gift.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. They used to do it I think to preserve amateurism of the athletes and to create some type of equity. It seems pretty clear they don't care about that stuff anymore. So why couldn't Huntington Bank in Columbus pay for players to play at OSU. Could put it on their individual jerseys. Bowling Green football sends a release saying that Gehrig Dieter does in fact plan to graduate in May and leave the football program.

My Bleacher Report app is blowing up, confirming multiple sources, says he's headed to Alabama. I felt when this rumor was shared it was likely going to happen. Where there's smoke there's usually fire. Can't say I like seeing a guy jumping around to all these schools like this but it's his choice. He'll get a chance to win a championship and he won't have any trouble finding a girl at Bama as, let's just say, those boys have no trouble finding dates. I'm happy for him but this is another devastating loss for BG. We had arguable the best WR duo in the country coming back next year and in a matter of weeks, poof, it's gone with Lewis and Dieter both exiting early.

My daughter switched schools this year for 8th grade. She left a small private school to attend a bigger public school because there's more opportunities on a bigger stage for her musically (harp, flute and piano.... and yes, she's damn good on all three). She loves her new school... Bedford Jr High... the teachers are amazing, her classmates are great and the music program is huge. Just to the north of us... about a half hour's drive is Saline . The HS there was ranked in the top 150 nationally by US News... the building is nicer than most of the BG campus (they have an indoor pool) the athletic facilities look like an NCAA D2 program and the orchestra there is great. We could put our daughter into a lottery to enroll there under school of choice.... we rolled past there today and started thinking that as much as we love Bedford, could we really pass this chance up because you get one shot at life. How much weight do you want to give to "loyalty" when opportunity is staring you in the face?

If it is Alabama....I completely understand Dieter leaving. It's the #1 program in the country... it's the SEC... it's National TV every SATURDAY... it's facilities and coaching on par with the NFL. It's a chance to play for the National Championship. It's a chance to be a player on the biggest stage in the country. Hell yes he should take it....

A note from Gehrig:

At this time I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Bowling Green community for the amazing journey I have been on the past three years. BG will always hold a very special place in my heart and that of my family. The memories I take with me will no doubt have me looking back to remember some of the best times of my life. Being a part of 3 MAC championships and winning 2 is something not many can say they did. I am so proud to be a member of the teams that accomplished this lofty goal! I have met some of my best friends in the world at BG, friends that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I met my wonderful girlfriend here and got to go to college with my two brothers. My whole experience at Bowling Green has been nothing but positive. I will graduate with my brother and my girlfriend in May. It just doesn't get much better than that. I have been truly blessed the last three years.
Since the bowl game and our season ended I have been contemplating the direction for what I wanted to do in the future. I contemplated the NFL, but decided I needed another year to improve at the college level. I spoke with my family and decided a graduate degree would serve me long after football ends. I looked at programs at several schools including Bowling Green and decided that my best fit was going to be at the University of Alabama in a program that BG does not offer. I will be attending school and continuing my football career at Alabama.
I wish nothing but the best to the players and coaches at Bowling Green. My time as a Falcon is better than I could have ever imagined.
I would like to give a special thanks to our AD Chris Kingston. He has been like a second father to me while I have been at BG and helped me grow into the man that I am today. He is the best AD in the country and I hope to always continue my friendship with him.
I also need to thank my trainer Al. He is not only great at what he does but is also one of the best guys I have ever met. He kept me healthy for three years and for that I am eternally thankful! Al Nasty! Hell yeah!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank coach Dave Clawson and his staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity at BG. Wake was one of the schools I considered for my masters...a top notch school and soon to be a top notch football program with that tremendous staff. I had a great visit at Wake and for that I want to thank them.
I would like to thank Coach Babers, Coach Lewis and Coach McCloud as well as the rest of the BG staff for helping me fine tune my tool belt and become the football player I have always wanted to be. There is always more work to be done but the tools they gave me I will carry with me forever. You guys will always have a special place in my heart.
Lastly, I want to sincerely thank the BG fans and community. I always felt supported at BG, be it by the fans at the game to the members of the community. What a wonderful place to go to school and play football! It has been an awesome three years and everyone has treated me with kindness and respect. BG will always be my college and I will always consider myself part of the Falcon Family.

Now that it's been announced, good for Gehrig and his family. I've met them on numerous occasions and they're outstanding people. Gehrig is a smart kid who is doing what's best for himself both academically and athletically, if he wishes to play in the NFL.

As far as the current staff goes, there's really not much Jinks would have to say anyways. He just got here and I'm sure understands what Gehrig is doing for himself. There's still a ton of talent at the WR position and guys like Redding will just get promoted to bigger roles.
