Remember that Miami team we lost to last week?
Remember that Miami team we lost to last week?
Well Toledo just beat Miami the other day 93-49!!!! What's more, it was even worse than that at one point as Toledo led 88-32!!!! Good Lord....That looks like one of those women's basketball scores when UConn plays someone.
GO BG!!!

Score is a little misleading. It wasn't that close. Miami did have a guy who wore knee bands, a headband and rec specs. It was like watching "that guy" from your old intramural team. Provided about the only entertainment for Miami.

A month ago I was optimistic about our progress. I get the feeling now that Huger can't wait for this season to end so he can clear some guys out and start hustling some transfers and JUCO guys.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Same here man. I was pretty impressed with how we played through the OOC schedule and the first few games of the MAC schedule. Even some of the losses, like the UT game, we fought but lost to a better team. But lately we're getting killed or managing to lose against mediocre or bad teams.Flipper wrote:A month ago I was optimistic about our progress. I still like the style of basketball Huger is trying to push, but it's becoming quite apparent we don't have the talent to run it well. I'm quite certain that Huger is in agreement with ya Flip that he'd like to see some guys leave. I always hate to say that, because we're not one of the mega programs we all like to bitch about, but for the team it'd be really nice if some more of these Orr guys left. Unfortunately we're still going to need the Juco/transfer route as well, because we clearly need IMMEDIATE contributors. Hate relying on that avenue but that's what happens when your recruiting has been garbage for close to a decade followed by 2 coaching changes in consecutive years.
I still have hopes, but the way this season has stumbled has really hurt. On the whole they're still going to be above my initial expectations in win total, but I would feel a lot better had they struggled out of the gate then gotten better as the year went out. Instead it looks as though they played well in Huger's system, but as the season turned into a grind it appears they don't wanna play for a coach that is trying to push him.

I feel the same. With the exception of the Wright State and Cincinnati games, the non-conference went pretty well. Then the first two weeks of MAC play were really promising. But since the Toledo game the season has been a train wreck. This team isn't even enjoyable to watch right now, it's more frustrating than anything. Everything we were doing well or at least decent has declined. About the only thing we seem to do well now is play poorly. Our team has the look and feel of a team that's just going through the motions and has essentially given up.

It's tough to pin it all on one guy, and certainly it's NOT just one guy, but I cannot help but notice the almost direct correlation between the team falling apart and Zach Denny's shot going to complete and total crap. During our run of good play he was the ONE guy that defenses had to respect outside the arc. He was shooting at a nearly 50% clip from out there, and was looking like one of the best shooters in the conference. As the Denny started to lose his feel from beyond the arc the team started to play equally bad. The last time we wont a conference game it was Matt Fox hitting those big shots outside.BGSU33 wrote:I feel the same. It's VERY clear that Huger wants a team that attacks the rim, but if you don't have guys to space the floor it is pointless to attack the rim...and we've seen that in recent weeks. How many times have we seen our PGs drive towards the hoop and have nowhere to go with the ball? Or Parker/Lillard/Alcegaire drive the ball only to find the lane so bogged down with traffic they have to force up a contested shot. Or guys collapsing down on Worrell when he gets the ball in the post.
The result has been a whole lot of forced shots around the basket, turnovers when there was nowhere to go with the ball, and when we do get fouled a whole lotta bad free throw shooting.
This team needs multiple outside shooters to move around the perimeter and provide targets for outlet passes when our guys attack the basket. If those guys are out there keeping the defenses honest suddenly we'll get some good looks around the rim as well. Denny was providing one of those guys, but we need him back and we need somebody else out there as well. We also need the guys that are attacking the rim to actually MAKE their foul shots.
Other than that woeful offense due to lack of shooting we are also getting destroyed on the glass. We aren't a big team. Worrell & Wiggins are nice athletic 4s, but we don't have a true 5. Denny is really the only guy on the team that rebounds well for his position. Last game I made it to the gym was so quiet you could hear Huger shouting (I think it was Wiggins, but not positive), "You have to box out better! That's 2 times in the last 2 games!" I believe it was after getting completely manhandled on a missed FT rebound attempt. I have hope for Wiggins...he's young and already added a lot of weight since HS, he needs more though.
I'm just really bummed because like you said 33 it's tough to watch the team now, when the first half of the year they were so much FUN to watch. THey were more fun to watch than Jans' group last year was. And I guess I should add that his team fell off a cliff to end the season as well. It has to be tough for coach Huger...game in game out the opponents have at least 1-2 players who are clearly better than anybody on our roster. THAT needs to change before anything else ever will.
