BG vs NIU
Re: BG vs NIU
After this loss, 2 more losses will officially have us playing on the road in the MAC tournament.
Re: BG vs NIU
I really don't see a single win there either and we've already lost 8 of our last 9 games. This could very likely become the worst stretch for BG basketball that I can remember in a long, long time.Falconfreak90 wrote:Funny you say that...Denny just missed a layup. Did these guys simply forget how to play? And looking ahead? Buffalo twice, Ohio, Akron and Kent State? This could become very, VERY bad in a hurry.hammb wrote:Probably fair, but a lack of talent is the bigger issue.Falconfreak90 wrote:We seem to have absolutely no leadership on the court...is that a fair assessment?
Hell the guy that was our best player for the first half of the season now couldn't throw it in the ocean from the beach. Denny went from being one of the best guards in the MAC to one of the worst players on our team.
GO BG!!!

Let's not kid ourselves, we WILL be on the road! End of story. The only question is will we be the #11 or #12 seed when it starts.gmartin wrote:After this loss, 2 more losses will officially have us playing on the road in the MAC tournament.

Parker and Denny combine 5 for 20. Ouch.
And we get 3 points from our Bigs!!!!

Re: BG vs NIU
71-60 final. Looks better than the game itself.
I can't wait for baseball to start Friday.

The score makes it look like we were in it. We weren't. NIU led from start to finish and had a lead of almost 20.Falconfreak90 wrote:71-60 final. Looks better than the game itself.

Hard as it is to believe we are probably playing wise right now than at any point in Orr's tenure. He was god awful as a coach but he typically find a way to get his team to at least mediocrity. Right now we're a dumpster fire.BGSU33 wrote:I really don't see a single win there either and we've already lost 8 of our last 9 games. But look at who is basically making up our rotation:
A couple upper class men from Orr (a guy we all know couldn't recruit)
A rs freshman and juco transfer that were left on the scrap heap for Jans.
A couple true freshmen and a couple juco transfers that were left on the scrap heap for Huger.
Throw in the back of the bench being more Orr guys that don't deserve scholarships and a walk-on jumo shooter and you have a complete and total mess.
It'll take Huger 3 years just to build a legit D1 roster. What he badly needs is one single solitary coup type recruit. A McLeod, a Stacey...somebody that can come in as a freshman and play right away and score. We're desperate but gonna be a tough sell for that. We haven't even been a decent team since next years freshman class was in kindergarten...

And I foresee another loss to Toledo tomorrow in another game. Don't see the women turning it around either.
Re: BG vs NIU
You all say Coach Orr killed this program. I will go one step further. I think when Dakich left for West Virginia and came back that was the beginning of the end.
I think if Dakich didn't come back Greg Kampe would have been hired and I think he would have build a successful program. Look what he has done at Oakland University. Instead we had Dakich for a few more years and then had to settle with Coach Orr.

Re: BG vs NIU
That was certainly a turning point as well. One could argue we've never been the same. The Dakich "decision" started the downward descent, Orr put us 6 feet under, Jans threw dirt in our face and Huger is dealing with a massive mudslide.gmartin wrote:You all say Coach Orr killed this program. Re: BG vs NIU
Well I'd argue the administration killed the program more than anything, but the Dakich return was the start of those bad moves. You can't bring a coach back after something like that. He had just the trust and respect of his team. I knew several players that were on the team then and they never welcomed him back and guys were actually telling recruits not to come here.gmartin wrote:You all say Coach Orr killed this program. Then we let him stick around for a lame duck season. Then we let Orr stick around at least 2 years too long, including a lame duck season.
Tough to really blame Dakich and Krebs for this current team though. Good moves in the last decade would have corrected that mistake. Right now we're awful thanks to Orr, keeping him too long, and Jans. I suppose you could give a bit of blame to Huger but it wouldn't be much. I expected this year would be a big struggle for Jans. After having to replace him I didn't think we'd win 12 games this year. Unfortunately it now looks like 13 might be the win total...
Our last 3 classes are a guy going into a lame duck year and two different coaches on stunted classes after landing the job after the season. Tough to overcome that.
Re: BG vs NIU
I can't even compare what the women are dealing with to the men. In the last decade BG women have been the best team in the MAC overall hands down. All those MAC Championships, NCAA berths and even a Sweet 16 run. The men? All I need to say is 1968. So yeah, the women are down right now, but boo-hoo, I'd trade my left nut in a heartbeat to see the men do what the women have in the last decade or so.gmartin wrote:And I foresee another loss to Toledo tomorrow in another game. Re: BG vs NIU
It's certainly too early for any firm assessment but losing a team like this isn't evidence that Huger is a good coach.
