BG vs Buffalo

BG vs Buffalo

A critical game tonight. BG and Buffalo tied. The winner would be the #8 seed. Loser #9. BG plays Kent and Buffalo plays Miami, each should win those games. BG and Buffalo each play Akron and Ohio, probable loses. BG needs this game tonight.

BG loses to Buffalo 55-52. BG had the lead with less than 2 minutes left and never scored again. Not even going to comment on the game as it wasn't a well played game.

Buffalo has the 8th seed locked. The only way BG can claim the 8th seed is for Buffalo to go 1-2 over its last 3 games and BG goes 3-0 (We still play at Ohio and Akron).

Looks like we may have a rematch with Buffalo in the MAC tournament.

Very Winnable Game. The difference was rebounding especially on the offensive glass.

Too many turnovers at the end of the game. Man, we needed this one. Miami is beatable (already beat them this year) but Ohio on the road will be TOUGH> I think we have a good shot at Akron.

Regardless Buffalo has a one game lead plus holds the tie breaker, so in essence a 2 game lead. So if Buffalo beats Kent State at home BG will need to go 3-0 to get the 8th seed.

It's been our demise all year long.......giving up too many offensive rebounds, turnovers, and offensive dry spells. Late in the game, offensive boards were 16-1, in favor of Buffalo. That's pathetic! There's a simple explanation......out-hustled and out-muscled. Again, we failed to take care of the basketball on offense. We cannot win if we only get five shots out of every ten trips up the floor, and Buffalo gets three or four tries each trip. The odds are in Buffalo's favor, that if you give them enough shots, one will fall sooner or later. It amazes me how many of our opponents' points are in the paint or under the basket. Our defense is no more efficient than our offense. As I've said before, be it fundamentals or motivation, I believe our coaching staff is dropping the ball in both respects. Typically, as the season progresses, players get better. We get better as a team. Neither has happened here. We need to improve, and we have not. Falcons, it's high time to switch gears! Talons up!

I mentioned this in a thread perhaps as long ago as a year ago.... but isn't our coaching staff very young and inexperienced too?
When Curt was here, the staff was young to a point, butseemed to be much more experienced... Roos as a def. co ord. Is perfect example.

I recall that post, Class of 61. I don't know what criteria Roos was looking at when she hired all of her assistants. But when she inherited Curt's players, they were already at the peak of their development. I believe it was Curt that made those players as good as they were. It's all about the head coach demanding excellence, maximizing the players' individual talents, putting them all together, syncronizing them into a well-oiled machine, and finally, attaining excellence. Miller was a very intense, demanding coach, who, through chewing out his players to their face or stomping his foot, knew how to get his players to respond to his demands. I'm not so sure Roos & Company are that gifted in player development or player motivation. If so, it's not showing up on the floor. She has a system in place, but the players have to understand it, and be fundamentally sound enough, and talented enough to execute it. We do have some very good talent on this team, but there is a reason why this team is not being very competitive in the MAC, much less in their non-conference games. The other teams are playing better than we are, and maybe it's because they ARE better than we are. I wonder if these players' talents are adequate enough to execute this type of system efficiently. If not, perhaps she needs to alter the system to better fit the talent she has. But if she keeps doing the same thing game in and game out, the results are NOT going to be any different. I recall two former Falcon players, who played with desire and heart on both ends of the floor. They didn't need to be motivated, as their motivation came from within. Funny, they both wore a number "3" on their jersey.....Lindsey Goldsberry and Deb Hoekstra. The knee pads they wore were NOT for cosmetic purposes! Need I say any more? Oh, to have 12 to 14 players on the team with that kind of heart! Imagine what we could accomplish! Perhaps it's time to go shopping for those types of players again! Go Falcons! See you Saturday!
