#12 seed

Post by gmartin »

After a promising 3-1 start BG has now slipped to the #12 seed. Don't really see BG winning at Kent or home against Buffalo so the #12 seed looks inevitable.

If MAC Tournament started today BG would play Kent State. Looks like it may come down to Buffalo, Kent or Toledo.

I'm pretty sure BG has only ever been a 12-seed once before. There were years when the MAC Tournament didn't include every team so there was a few times when BG hasn't qualified for it before, but even in those years I don't think BG would have been the lowest seed. But ever since all the teams were added to the tournament field again, I'm pretty sure it's only ever happened once. I expected a fall off from last year, but I didn't expect to see us bottom out in the MAC like this. I thought we'd be an 8 or 9 seed kind of a team, but not 12. And especially not after a 3-1 start in conference play with a few road wins.

The more interesting thing is, if Western would happen to beat Toledo on Tuesday in the Zoo, the Eastern vs Toledo game would determine the 8th seed. Toledo could drop to the 9th seed.

To get a shot at Akron we would need to win 3 games in the tournament. We've only won 2 games out of our last 12.

That maybe so ...but I would like another chance to beat them. Heck we beat OU twice; why not Akron once? They certainly can be beaten. Miami 77-Akron 64...

Akron can be beaten but we have lost to them 24 out of our last 25 games. We have beaten them ONCE since 2004.

Things have a way of evening out in the MAC. (growing up in the early mid 60s I thought Toledo would NEVER beat us in football)

As of today, February 29th, Miami and Western hold the tie breaker over us, so as of today we would be the 12th seed. BG would need to win against Kent or Buffalo and have Miami and Western each lose out. You are correct anything is still possible but as of right this second we are currently the 12th seed

Thanks for this info.... As i know we're 1-1 against both MU and WMU. Wont even talk that Miami is playing better while we're ...... Never mind.

Another chance to beat them??? We've had 15 consecutive chances to do it and failed each time! But yes, I agree, one would think - why can't BG beat Akron once, right? Well, we have beaten Akron once, in fact. However, it was sandwiched around 24 losses! Yes, even Miami just beat Akron. And that was before Akron turned around and gave as a giant ass-kicking like we haven't seen in awhile by a MAC team. In the two meetings with Akron alone this year, the Zips set the Stroh Center record with 16 three's made, then turned around and set the JAR record with 19 three's made. If BG somehow makes it to Cleveland (very, very unlikely) and sees Akron, look for the MAC Tournament record for three's to be broken. Every team in the MAC has beaten Akron recently except one. Yep, you guessed it. And I don't care if Urbana or Tiffin beats Akron, we can't. Yes, one of the days we'll end the streak. Just don't hold your breath for it to happen any time soon.
GO BG!!!

Wow, we got three of these posts in a single season while only losing to Akron twice. Pretty good year. Thankfully, BG owns Ohio in some bizarre way, otherwise we would totally be doomed.
