Fantastic article on the front page of the Blade today about the resurgence of the Falcon Hockey program under Paluch. It covered the lengthy history and traditions of the program quite well.
I looked on the website, but couldn't find it. Maybe it's just not posted yet. If anyone else finds it, please post it, as it is a really good article.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second." ~~USCHO Poster "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got." ~~USCHO Poster, AFTER Tech beat us #NeverGiveUp

For the record, I do think the article was a little harsh on Buddy. It was Buddy who wanted the big addition put onto the rink and it was Buddy who got it going and made it happen. The article made it sounds like Buddy did nothing for the program and that is just NOT TRUE!!

I am going to agree with you completly on this one. It was Buddy who got the ball rolling on the expansion, and it is Buddy who is managing the ICe Arena right now and I am sure he knows what elxe must be done to the facility. I thought the comments made by Krebs were the most respectful towards Buddy. For someone who seems to have the "hockey beat" for that trashy paper he sure dosen't seem to know a lot about the program. But i'm not surprised, it is the blade afterall.

I think a part of the reason people lost interest in the hockey team is because The Blade lost interest in it. It's sad to see that the only BG hockey stories that make The Blade anymore has to be from special ocxasions....like the suspension of 7 players or the Sigalet MS story, which he doesn't want publicity from except to be there to help others and inspire. He doesn't care about the Hobey Baker or standing out...he doesn't want to....he wants to be part of this team....this team that is 3 points away from home ice...something they haven't done in 11 years.

Do you think that perhaps the Blade maybe lost interest in covering BG hockey so closely when professional hockey returned to Toledo, creating a new "beat" for the sports section?
Storm returned pro hockey to toledo in the early 90s, 92 or 93? BG decline begins in the mid 90s. . . not exact, but close. . .

uh....NO!! Interest in hockey had NOTHING to do with the Toledo Blade's interest in the program. It's not like they ever put much in there even WHEN we were at the top. To tie the interest in BG hockey to the Blade is totally ridiculous. People lost interest because the team's success went down and it became an exercise in frustration going to games. You never knew "which" team was going to be on the ice. One night we beat the top team in the league, the next get blasted by the lowest. We played to the level of the competition. THIS is why people quit coming. It wasn't fun any more. People are coming back because the word is getting out that this team is fun to watch EACH and EVERY game!!! They play hard, work their butts off on the ice and are winning games again!!!!

The Toledo Blade is just jealous that BGSU has a hockey team and UT doesn't. In the past, the Blade's policy for BG hockey has been two paragraph article for a win or tie and big headline for a loss. Don't expect much publicity from the Blade for BG hockey until UT steps up and starts their own program. The fact that BG has something UT doesn't hurts them very deeply. Look at their highschool hockey coverage. Very little mention of any games until St. John's beat BG this past weekend. Now, the next game will see a lot more press because it's St John's and St Francis. All the state championships that BGHS won never really received space in the Blade until after the championship game. Then it was barely mentioned.
The Blade has NEVER covered BG hockey the way the other sports are covered. I was astounded when they had the Paluch article in there. Prior to that the last time that I remember them having something good to say about the program was when we won the National Championship.

Technically, UT does have a hockey team, it's just a Division II Club Hockey team. They played here at UK twice this season and lost both to the Wildcats .
I just wish The Blade would act more like the Sentinel-Tribune and do some more game recaps of the hockey games. They do a good job with football and basketball. but leave something to be desired with hockey. I love how Kevin Gordon always is at games or writing articles in the Sentinel about the hockey team. I think thats the outlet to the people of BG and I wish tThe Blade would do more of that...maybe not every game, but at least the big ones to try and open up the Northwest Ohio crowds to BG hockey.

Right on FF! This situation is exactly what happened with football as well in the late 90's. The teams weren't very good and interest went south.
This is a very good article and the day is coming again.....you know it....when BG Hockey will be THEE best in the CCHA. And that, my friends, will be one glorious day!
Watched the ESPN CLassic stuff with the 1980 USA hockey team and it was nice to hear Al Michaels mention Bowling Green a few times when Ken Morrow was on the ice.
