Jarret gets a bad rap on that play. The ball was underthrown and he had to bend to get it while falling backwards .The cliche is if you get hands on it you should catch it...but it's asking a lot of a TE to make that play.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: 2016 Football Schedule
I'll admit it wasn't the easiest of catches possible, but he should have caught it. As a D-1 TE, when you have a ball land in your hands like that, you need to pull it in. I bet if anyone asked him if he should have caught it, he'd say yes.Flipper wrote:Jarret gets a bad rap on that play. Re: 2016 Football Schedule
Of course he would...he's an athlete...a competitor...he'll tell you he should have made every play in every game. The ball didn't land in his hands...it was heading towards his ankles and he somehow got his hands by his ankles.

Re: 2016 Football Schedule
Wow, this guy's name is still being brought up 13 years later because he missed a tough catch? Plenty of mistakes made that day.
Re: 2016 Football Schedule
I always thought Brandon lost us that game by playing way too tentative for at least the first half. Of course I was drunk for much of the first half and haven't gone back to watch the game in many years.
That and the officials on that fumble. We would have had the ball needing a score at around mid-field. BG CLEARLY recovered the fumble. They awarded it to OSU because they said the OSU back had jumped on the ball and gained "control" and was down before the pileup ensued. I think everybody in attendance that day, and watching at home, knew that was a total BS call/explanation and complete and total homerism.
Still was an awesome game to attend, although it did finally push me towards total hatred of OSU, thanks to their fanbase. The assholes I encountered that day ensured I'd never again claim dual fanship.

If a MAC school is gonna beat them "eventually", it better be THIS year, since they're dropping MAC schools from their schedules. But adding "powers" like UNLV!Schadenfreude wrote:Neither Northern Illinois nor Western Michigan were blown out that badly by Ohio State last season. A MAC school is eventually going to beat Ohio State.

Re: 2016 Football Schedule
BS. It can happen. I don't care how many 5* recruits they have. Doyt Perry always said "ANY game can be won or lost". Yes osu reloads but that doesn't mean all the Freshmen or new starters will be ready. These osu fans at work keep telling me how great the RB taking over for EE is gonna be. Great. He might also fumble 3X in the first half. The point is we just don't know. And if NIU came close to beating them with the loaded team osu had last year, certainly we have as good a shot this year. Coach Jinks is already stoked for this game and what a way to debut. Every team in America can be beaten on any given day. I've been to Ohio Stadium for every BG game played there...'92, '97, '03 and '06. Twice we were very close to winning. Time to kick in the Falcon door...we can win this game and I get more confident every time I think of it.BGSU33 wrote:True, but they return a QB who can run the read option, which spells trouble for BG. Plus, they simple reload at positions they lose guys. OSU is loaded across the board. Who are we kidding, it's not gonna happen.Falconfreak90 wrote:We don't even have any film yet! lol. Sure, it "could happen, and I could also win the lottery. And I'd love like hell to see both, but neither's going to happen. But it doesn't stop me from wishing or playing. We've certainly had our chances. But it would take BG coming in with a loaded team (which we're not, we suffered major offseason losses), OSU being down (they're still one of the top teams in the country), for BG to play a near flawless game and for OSU to play a poor one. It also would help to not have the game in Columbus. So yeah, it's possible, just very, very unlikely to happen.Falconfreak90 wrote:BS. It can happen. I don't care how many 5* recruits they have. Re: 2016 Football Schedule
The ball didn't land in his hands??? It was right there on both hands. Yeah, he had to bend, but damn, what classifies as a drop, if he's standing by himself all alone without a defender within 10 yards and the ball hits him in the numbers and he doesn't have to move and he drops it? And he didn't go down by his ankles either. Knees yes, ankles no. This play gets more difficult every time it's defended. Watch the play (link below) at the 13:22 mark of the third quarter, they'll show it live and two replays of it. The replays show how catchable the ball was. It was a very, very catchable pass. I've seen way worse drops, but that was a killer as the next play was an INT. And no, I'm not blaming him for be loss whatsoever. But when people talk about how great it would be to beat Ohio State and you lose a game by 7 when things like this happen, it's why people continue to talk about trying to beat OSU instead of when they beat OSU.Flipper wrote:Of course he would...he's an athlete...a competitor...he'll tell you he should have made every play in every game. Obviously, UND is FCS for a reason, but don't underestimate us, that's when upsets happen. Look at last year (aside from UND beating a poor WY team), but Portland St also beat Washington St and North Texas. On paper BGSU should beat UND, but I don't think that makes it a guarantee.bgsufalcon24 wrote:My $.02
This might be the weakest home schedule we've had since I started following the program, outside of maybe 2006 when it was the same MAC basically but with just 5 home games. If our program wasn't winning as much as it has the last few years I'd be really concerned about our attendance numbers, especially given that the last 2 games are a November weeknight and the dreaded day after Thanksgiving against 2 opponents that don't draw casual fans at all. That being said, 6-0 at home is not just a realistic goal, I think BG really ought to do it. UB is arguably the one team that is somewhat on our level among the home opponents. Miami, Kent State, and Eastern Michigan are all horrendous, North Dakota is a I-AA so how good can they really be (better than Wyoming I guess but that's not saying much), and though Middle Tennessee isn't that bad relatively speaking I would think BG would be solidly favored in that game too.
The road games though...wow, much tougher. Obviously OSU will be a massive challenge, one that we'll likely fail badly at. Memphis will be another very difficult opponent even though they've lost a bunch of talent in the offseason (honestly we have too). Ohio and Toledo are our two biggest MAC games and they come in back to back weeks. And then after that you have Northern Illinois, who is going to have some serious revenge on their minds after the beatdown we gave them in Detroit.
The reality might be that our easiest road game on paper (Akron) might be just as easy as our hardest home game (Buffalo). If there was ever a year BG goes 6-6 by going 6-0 at home and 0-6 on the road this is it. Not that I expect that, but you get the point. 8-4 is probably more realistic, with us beating Ohio and Akron away. I can't rule out getting stung by MTSU or UB at home, but picking off Memphis, Toledo, or NIU away isn't unrealistic either, so there is some definite range of possibility, but not a lot. We won't be going undefeated with this schedule, but we're not going 4-8 either.
I've said it before that our passing game is still unproven, but we have a stout defense, and a very good run game. John Santiago was an all-american as a true freshman and will only get better. He has the kind of speed you guys saw in your bowl game against Georgia Southern, and behind him we have a lot of depth.
I know this isn't a "big" game for BGSU, but given some of the turnover in players and coaching, I think this could be interesting, especially early in the season.

Have to disagree on Brandon losing this game. I went back and cruised through this game. We got down 24-7 because Harris played subpar for 3 quarters. Opening drive he misses a wide open Sharon. Next drive makes a terrible interception inside our own 30. He has another fumble inside the 20 that led to 3 more easy points. Missed some other wide open receivers and was very hesitant to run when yardage was there.hammb wrote:I always thought Brandon lost us that game by playing way too tentative for at least the first half. Personally with the way we played for most of that game I always thought we were a bit lucky to be in it at the end. No way to ever know if Jarrett catching that pass or getting the ball on that fumble would have changed the outcome but I also see why these things stick out in people's minds. We had all the momentum and getting the ball at the 50 with over a minute would have been huge.

33...I don't know how big a person you are, but trust me...asking a guy Jarrett's size to go low as he's falling backwards is asking a lot. You also say you didn't want to single him out....but he's the only guy you mentioned by name.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
