Yale won the Ivy League and will be heading to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1962.

Here are the schools who put basketball teams on the court each year and have failed to qualify for the tournament for at least as long as Bowling Green has been on the schneid.

Columbia: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1968.
Tennessee Tech: Division I since 1956. Last appeared in 1963.
Maine: Division I since 1962.
New Hampshire: Division I since 1962.
Dartmouth: Division I since 1948. Last appeared in 1959.
Army: Division I since 1948.
Citadel: Division I since 1948.
Northwestern: Division I since 1948.
St. Francis (N.Y.): Division I since 1948.
William & Mary: Division I since 1948.

New Hampshire and Northwestern are still alive. The other schools aren't going to make the tournament this season, from what I understand.

I feel like I remember this list surfacing about 12-15 years ago when we were grouped in with about 30-something other schools. Year after year schools fall off of it. Flash ahead to the present and we're still on it and it's now down to 10. Considering there's over 350 teams in the nation and that's where BG stands, it's just downright embarrassing anymore.

Hopefully they can follow it up Saturday and knock off Duke.

Time to reduce the list by another team. With a huge win @ #7 Wisconsin last night, Northwestern all but assured itself a ticket this year.

They're now 19-6 and in 4th place in the Big Ten. They have 6 games remaining, but 2 are against Big Ten cellar dwellers Rutgers and Illinois. They also have a chance for another big win or two with remaining games against Maryland, Michigan and Purdue.

So barring a total collapse, mark it down, they're in. Good for them!

Northwestern is where I did my Masters 20 years ago. Who would have known back then that it would be 20 years before either BG or NW would be dancing. Very proud of my Wildcats but damn BG, enough already. Maybe BG will get hot and win 4 straight in the MAC tournament.

I'm liking what I'm seeing out of Huger and the effort he is getting from the team. They responded well to the benching and won three games the basketball pessimist in me expected them to lose. And I'm liking the play of the young guys. Next year might be the year and if not next year, then soon.

I thought of this list last night when Northwestern won. Year after year after year other teams have fallen of the list, but BG remains a fixture. At this rate I'm convinced BG will be all alone holding the dubious honor all to itself.

Northwestern is the only school that will come up that list this year. Unless of course our Falcons get on a hot streak and when the tournament. No one else on that list will qualify this year. And as bad as those programs have been I don't see that changing anytime soon, especially the Citadel or Army.
