Re: New Kicker
Thanks for sharing. Next season we're going to need a good kicker. Last year Tate went into a real funk but our offense was good enough to cover it up. This year we're likely gonna need to make some kicks to get to where we want to be.Falcon Commander wrote:according to Orange & Brown....we've got a transfer Kicker coming in...Blake Levin from WY

GO BG!!!
Re: New Kicker
I wouldn't count out Nick Fields just yet either, but this looks like a good pick up. You don't want to count on just 1 kicker and I don't know that we had much else other than Nick until now.

Re: New Kicker
We have that tiny kid with the funny hair....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: New Kicker
In an article in The Blade today it says our punter Johnson will be doing the holding for field goals and extra points. Johnson said he has never done that before. Interesting to see how that will work out.
Re: New Kicker
Johnson?????? I think you mean Joe Davidson.
Re: New Kicker
Thanks Factman. That's what I meant. Davidson. I kinda combined Joe and Davidson to make Johnson. But yes Davidson.
Re: New Kicker
It really has to be better than the silent count dino went to on extra points and field goals. That didn't work out all season!
Re: New Kicker
Tech2000, you are absolutely right...the silent count was disastrous. From the mouth of a college football coach, "why would they go to a silent count when Tyler hit 80% of his field goals?" Special teams were an afterthought with Babers, plus BG was out schemed time and again. In spring ball, special teams did absolutely nothing until practice 8 or 9. That is not exaggeration. There were protection breakdowns that were not corrected throughly the season. In general, much less emphasis was put on special teams under Babers as compared to Clawson. I could say so much more, but I will stop there (for now).
Re: New Kicker
Specials sucked under Clawson, but the team as a whole accomplished more. Winning against P5 schools, still going to the MAC title game twice, winning once.DrACTV wrote:Tech2000, you are absolutely right...the silent count was disastrous. Babers was a better football coach than Clawson. He may not have been a better program builder (he didn't have to build it), but he was a better coach. No clue why it's always been so fun to bitch about him, but we can only hope that Jinks is as good.

Re: New Kicker
My only criticism of Dino's teams was that if you got up on them early, they seem to pack it in. Other than that....I would watch his brand of football over Clawson's any day of the week...and I think Clawson did a great job rebuilding our program.

Re: New Kicker
I have absolutely nothing against clawson, who had a disaster to work work with, to babers who up the level of expectations of all falcons fans. Yep heres the but, whether it's urban, clawson or dino, a bone head move is a bone head move. I've made many and have been called out on them, thanks boss, so they are worth mentioning but not as a down grade for what they have accomplished.
Re: New Kicker
There you have it. Interview today with Joe Davidson after practice....asked if he's noticed any difference, yes it's better to have a special teams coach that will get on you than a postional coach that handles special team duties. Also he said they did not work much on special teams in spring much. If that's the case, its probably not a stretch that they didn't work on them much during the season. No wonder there was issues on special teams. You can watch it from the football site
Re: New Kicker
I thought the interview with Joe was revealing. BG now has a dedicated special teams coach, rather than a position coach who just happens to coach special teams. The truth is that BG's special teams coach the past two years involved himself very little in coaching the FG unit. That responsibility was given to a line coach. Special teams were largely ignored in the spring under The previous staff and given limited time in the fall. The Syracuse spring game today includes no special team work, par for the course.
Re: New Kicker
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who caught that. It was striking. I like Babers, he is a great coach who did a lot in a little amount of time for us. However he was largely a much improved version of Gregg Brandon. Offense before all else.
As for Jinks, I just keep coming back to Dave Doeren. Young, energetic, first head coaching position, up and coming, and I'm hoping he similarly gives us more conference titles!
