“There are some intangibles that will come from the new stadium, there’s no doubt about it,” Vangermeersch said. “The issue, though, becomes that line from the ‘Jerry Maguire’ movie — show me the money. Show me this is a valid investment for all of six game days a year — and they can’t.”
I think this line sums up BG, we play 6 home games a year (1-2 during the week in November) with no other program that really needs the seating, concession or restroom capacity of a 24,000 seat stadium. The only practical, yet ridiculous way, I see this happening at a MAC school to spend the money Akron spent is to have all the other athletic facilities somehow attached and share restrooms, concessions and suites with say an arena along with attachments for baseball, softball, tennis, soccer and track facilities around the stadium to share more restrooms and concessions. Initially the price would be overwhelming but at least there would be multiple reasons to maintain and update facilities.
As is I really can't see a reason to put tons of money into a facility that averages 16,000 a game over 6 dates. I like football, I've enjoyed my season tickets for years and I wish more people would attend. I don't think bigger video boards, better concessions, and nice restrooms will do much more than maintain current attendance levels.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
