Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
That's too bad. He seemed to have a lot of potential.
Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
2nd strike. Won't see him playing D1 ball anymore.
Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
What a waste of talent and opportunity, and what a disappointment all around. I just hope he gets his head screwed on straight and is able to carve out a decent future.

Just hope he doesn't turn into another Titus Young. That kid had potential but went down the wrong path and never recovered.

Lost our starting QB from last year. Now 3 receivers. Running back. New coach. New Defense. Maybe that point spread is a little low.

Titus Young was mentally ill...this kid just seems like an idiot. He must have done something pretty bad to get broomed outright...seeing as how they haven't fired the coach who lit up a bartender at closing time. (unless I missed that one)gmartin wrote:Just hope he doesn't turn into another Titus Young. That kid had potential but went down the wrong path and never recovered.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
Was this kid any good anyways? He hardly could see the field in a video game offense last year and looked lost half the time. There is a reason he didn't make it at Baylor and it's not just because he was an idiot. Baylor will let idiots run the asylum if they can play.
Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
Not to be Mr Raincloud, but we lost four receivers - Lewis, Deiter, Burbrink, and Rhodes - who I was hoping but not counting on to step up big this year. I am optimistic that Moore will have another great season and will be featured in a slot-happy offense and Redding will be ready to step up into Lewis' shoes. The one I'm most worried about replacing is Deiter. Phouthavong is the only big-bodied receiver we have at 6-3 and he's a youngster, so I'm hoping he had a great spring.gmartin wrote:Lost our starting QB from last year. Now 3 receivers. Running back. Speaking of Moore, I hope Mike Jinks is planning to use him like Jakeem Grant at Texas Tech. Check this out ...
Running back wise, I feel pretty good. Box had just as good YPG as Greene, and we return Wilson and Domer who both showed us some potential.
And as for QB ... if the reports we've heard are true and Knapke is as much improved over 2014 as he is said to be ... I'll really feel fine going into this season. Especially with a solid offensive line to anchor the whole show.

It will be interesting to see the differences between last years offense and Jink's twist on the up tempo spread. Babers offense struggled against decent defenses who took away the deep ball...teams who made us string some first downs together usually were able get off the field.
Obviously you don't want to lose too many guys, but this is just an opportunity to see how we've been recruiting the last couple years.

For what it's worth, The Blade's John Wagner now regards this as a thin position for Bowling Green.MarkL wrote:Not to be Mr Raincloud, but we lost four receivers - Lewis, Deiter, Burbrink, and Rhodes - who I was hoping but not counting on to step up big this year. Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
Thin? Not really...but inexperienced certainly. Moore and Redding are the only two returning players who saw consistent action last year. Scotty Miller will probably end up starting somewhere. After that, many unknowns. How good is Landry? Will guys like Phoutavong and Spencer get a chance? Moore is the only senior of the group.Schadenfreude wrote:For what it's worth, The Blade's John Wagner now regards this as a thin position for Bowling Green.MarkL wrote:Not to be Mr Raincloud, but we lost four receivers - Lewis, Deiter, Burbrink, and Rhodes - who I was hoping but not counting on to step up big this year. Re: Robbie Rhodes dismissed
We've lost a TON of talent and production at WR now. The early departures of Lewis and Dieter alone were going to be too big to overcome by themselves, let alone the other losses that have followed. Moore isn't going to fill the void of what we've lost. He's gonna continue to give us exactly what he gives us. He's not a WR who goes downfield and gets deep balls like Lewis and Dieter. He also has suspect hands as he's had several drops when he's been wide open and could have walked in for TD's but couldn't catch the ball and dropped it. Moore has very average hands but is an exceptional playmaker. He's the kind of WR who excells at getting the ball in space on crossing routes and on jet sweeps. He can't body-up and win balls like Dieter, he can't run down bombs like Lewis and doesn't have hands like Burbrink. He needs to find easier ways to get the ball, whereas our other receivers excelled in ways to get their catches. Where Moore is better than those guys is once he actually has the ball. That's when he's at his best. The bigger issue now will be getting it to him which is going to be more difficult as teams don't have to worry about other guys like Lewis or Dieter anymore. Losing one of those two (both with eligibility remaining) was tough, but losing both was a killer.
I've been told Redding frustrated the previous staff because he was a monster at times in practice but it didn't translate to game days. I've gathered it's more of a confidence issue with him more than anything. To me Landry is going to be the deciding piece to either salvage the unit or watch it struggle mightily. The problem is, unlike a lot of JUCO's, he wasn't here for spring ball and will have only fall camp to adjust. I have also been told that since Stephens is now lost at CB that Spencer may get a look on that side of the ball now instead of WR.
