Dont recall width of aisles being a problem.... Surely its better to help fan safety w/ rails than to worry about width of aisles. Give us something to grab hold of.
Movie theatre i usually attend has similar step/aisle configuration... But its a feeling of security, especially going down steps that are wider than regular. Lots of folks take 2 steps per stair to fell more secure.

If adding handrails reduces the width of the aisle required by code... then there could be an issue. But I think there is some leniency in interpreting this area of the code. I can't remember the width of the aisles at the Doyt, but clearly if its 36 inches or less, there could be a conflict. I'm not saying you can't do it.... it just requires the architect working with the building inspectors to resolve the issues.
