BG Has Played Ohio State Tough in the Past

Post by Rollo83 »

Nice article on the past four games against the Buckeyes. The 2003 video in here brings back some great memories.

This is why I remain optimistic we have a chance to pull the upset. Not many here do...

2003...that one haunts me to this day. Man, we had them...too many turnovers and a couple plays here and there. Golden Opportunity slipped away that day.

The 2003 game talk almost always ends up in a discussion about 1 dropped pass. I'd rather talk about the fumble at the 2:27 mark. ross fumbles the toss, doesn't make a clear recovery, bg comes out of the pile with it and tosu keeps possession. I still don't get that call. That was a killer. 1:30 to go near midfield would have been a good spot to be.

Absolutely. Will Teague #97 came out of the pile with the ball. The old guy sitting next to me, an osu fan, said "Son, we all know BG recovered that fumble but you won't get the call". How right he was and he was a cool osu fan. How often can you say THAT? lol. Instead of the ball on osu's 47 with 1:30 left, we forced a punt but then had to go 75 yards in 42 seconds. Quite a difference...

Definitely the play I think of first when I think about that game...

For me, watching that game brings back memories of a great team that had an uncharacteristically bad day. I will go to my grave believing that 2003 team was as good as the O$U team and would have won as many as they lost, had they played them a handful of times on a neutral field. The turnovers, dropped pass, fumbled snap, ect. were the kinds of mistakes that team didn't make very many of that year and picked an unfortunate time to play less than their best game that day. That day is still an open wound for me, knowing that it was the best chance we'll ever have to beat those turds and it slipped away. Living 30 minutes from Columbus, being force fed everything Buckeye to the point of nausea gets really old and a win that day would have been something special.

Like that day in 2003, I'll be there again this time, but I won't be going with the same kind of realistic hope of winning that I had back then.

And remember how freakin good Miami was that year??? they would have beaten osu by 2 scores in the shoe, I am convinced. I feel for ya bro...it is bad enough in NE Ohio having to listen to all these clowns.

Like Urbie said in 2001...Why not us, why not now?

You might want to tell the writer of the 'nice article' that it's Magner, not Manger, and dominant, not dominate. You know, if you happen to see him.

Thanks. I told him and he made those edits. He said here is another article you won't like...this one is on Austin Valdez. :D

Not outright disagreeing with you but I don't think Miami would've matched up any better than us. Miami killed us with the deep ball and I think OSU had the talent to shut it down. Iowa was able to shut them down 20-3 so I think they would have struggled in the horseshoe.

Big Ben threw 4 picks against #25 Iowa to start the season. MU steamrolled everyone else that year to my knowledge.

The only teams to give them a game were Cincinnati and surprisingly enough, Kent.

We matched up horribly with MU that year. They gave our defense fits but they wouldn't have ran up and down the field on Ohio State. Just my opinion.

I gotta agree with Freak. As good as we were in 2003, that Miami team was just better. It wasn't just their offense, but their defense was strong too. They had that linebacker, Terna Nande, who was a run stopping monster and a strong set of db's as well. I thought we played pretty well in the championship game, but they were just better. Harris didn't have open receivers all night and their offense tore us up.

Ben played his one bad game of the year in that opener vs Iowa and they got it figured out after that. They were not even challenged the rest of the season and finished with a ranking of 9 or 10 and in my opinion, should have been higher. I would have loved to see them get a shot at O$U that year. I think they would have had a great shot at beating them. They fell victim to being pigeon holed into a MAC tie in bowl that year when they deserved to play in a major bowl. They ended up going to the GMAC and pasting Louisville. In my 25 years of following MAC football, I haven't seen another team on that level. Too bad it had to coincide with our great team of 2003 #-o

I truly believe Miami was the best team we played in 2003, and it didn't seem that close.

I couldn't agree more. Doesn't make me hate Miami any less, though.
