Embarrassed by kneeling players

Post by DrACTV »

I was sitting not far from the end zone where the BG players knelt during the national anthem. I was completely and utterly embarrassed by their actions, and ashamed for the university. When the anthem started, we were saying "stand up...stand up!" My heart sank to my stomach when they remained kneeling. It was not enough to kneel; a couple had to glare into the stands after the anthem like they were bad asses. Guess what...you were bad alright. In response, I will withhold my support for this team by not attending another game the rest of the season.

I think that they were praying. I saw the Ohio State players run to the end zone and kneel for prayer. Then BG came out and as soon as they started, the National Anthem began. I didn't see them glare, though. If that's true, then their defense is definitely weakened.

Couldn't agree more.

Leaned to my wife after the anthem and said I really hope that's not a reaction to colin kaepernicks actions. I'm holding out till the first home game next week to cast judgment. This says more about Jinks and Bob Moosbrugger, players will do what's allowed and/or not enforced. Would OSU players do this with Urban Meyer or Alabama players with Nick Saban.

There are public tax dollars being used so those players can have the opportunity to play the sport they are playing and if those players want to bring political issues into this thats poor leadership from above and shame on those players. Professional athletes and sports is a completely different ball game and if they are good enough to get there and want to do that so be it.

I really hope this wasn't a political stance. IF THIS WAS A POLITICAL STANCE AND HAPPENS AGAIN THIS IS ONE FALCON FAN THAT WILL CANCEL AND NOT RENEW FALCON CLUB OR SEASON TICKETS AGAIN.

Has there been a change in pregame routine? Generally in the college game the anthem takes place with both teams in the locker room.

I have video of the anthem and it appears from my view there are 2 players kneeling during. I will post a picture or the video for you to decide when I get home.

Disappointing.

IMO it looks like an individual choice and not a team thing.

Ugg, I'm totally embarrassed by BG fans. On Saturday a bunch of them were ignoring the national anthem and trying to make some kind of political statement by yelling at the players on the field. Look, if you want to disrespect the Anthem by not singing or remaining silent, that's your right, as long as you're doing it on your own time and not when you're standing in a tax payer funded stadium. I'm so upset that I plan to find where these fans are employed so that I can boycott thier busniesses for the remainder of the year.

They have the freedom to kneel and we have the freedom to criticize, that's what makes this country great. Hopefully there's uniformity next weekend if the players are out for the anthem.

I would think with as much attention this has garnered over the past 10 days, our Head Football coach would have addressed it before the first game. Apparently not.

I don't really care if a couple of crybabies who are getting an opportunity that most people wouldn't dream of getting (hey kid...wanna free education?) want to protest the unjust society that created said opportunity...I'm already disinterested enough in this thing that it really doesn't matter.

I'm shifting my allegiance to Div III Adrian College...Go....I think they're the Bulldogs

I am with them on their right to express themselves and do what they feel is right. I do wish, however, that instead of doing it in a manner to draw attention and single them out they could do something else. If they wish to continue to not stand for the anthem I would ask that they do so in the locker room and then come out when the anthem is complete. That way they don't have to salute or recognize the flag/anthem but it truly becomes a silent protest.

My political statement on the matter in general:
RIOTS (such as Ferguson or Baltimore)- "Why do these people have to riot, can't they find a peaceful way to protest?!"

PEACEFUL PROTESTS IN PLACES LIKE CLEVELAND (blocking interstates, traffic)- "Why do these people have to protest in a way that affects me, can't they do something else?!"

PEACEFUL PROTEST THAT INVOLVES ONLY ONE PERSON (such as not standing during the anthem or reciting the pledge of allegiance)- People still lose their s**t and many people who routinely say "People get offended at everything these days" are quickly offended by something that doesn't effect them.

So, protest in the locker room where no one will be aware of it?

No surprise. You knew this was going to happen all over sports.

Yes, much like players that chose not to display American flags on their helmets or jerseys in the 90s or like former Detroit Tigers Chet Lemon & Lou Whittaker- the players didn't turn their flag decals upside down and the ballplayers- they didn't kneel on the foul line, they stayed away during its performance. They can stay true to a personal decision not to honor a flag or anthem they feel doesn't represent them. Their absence would speak volumes and still support a truly personal protest. Again, that is MY suggestion. They are free to do as they like.

I've looked at my video again and what I was able to see is this:

One player kneeling during the.anthem beginning and then later standing before it ends.

Another player standing during the beginning then kneeling during the end of the anthem.

Not sure when they chose to kneel or stand, but I do not think it was a team decision.

They have a right to kneel, pray whatever. I do not have to agree with them but based on further video replay it was 2 players making an individual choice.

I'm more upset with the players not showing up and getting embarrassed on the field.
