As for using all the scholarships I don't get it. Should we have a lottery to give away that last scholarship so we can say we used all 13. If there isn't a player that fits athletically, academically, socially and as a basketball player for the program then WHY should it be used?
If you realistically think there isn't 1 player in all of the Earth who doesn't fit athletically, academically and socially you are not paying any attention.

We were very limited last year in the post and we didn't recruit anyone over 6-7.

2016-2017 1 scholarship available
1 Ali, Sr-Frye, Fr-Caldwell, Fr
2 Lillard, So-Denny, Sr-Hluchoweckyj, So-Turner Fr
3 Alcegaire, Sr
4 Worrell, So-Uju, Jr
5 Wiggins, So-Mayleben, Jr

Or

1 Ali, Sr-Frye, Fr-Caldwell, Fr
2 Denny, Sr-Hluchoweckyj, So-Turner Fr
3 Lillard, So-Uju, Jr
4 Alcegaire, Sr-Worrell, So
5 Wiggins, So-Mayleben, Jr

It's always interesting to hear how this kid could've, should've or would've played DI ball if given a chance. The ones that really want it bad enough walk on and earn that scholarship. I'd prefer that someone who has proven they can handle it academically, in practice and riding the pine with no time on the court guaranteed be given that scholarship rather than bring someone in just because we have an extra one.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Recruiting is at best an educated guess. The amount of chaos and happenstance that allows a kid to land on your team and then have success is so large that the only ways to minimize your risk are to scout a ton and then make a ton of attempts. I don't think there is any excuse for not using every roster spot available for those attempts.

I think it speaks volumes to having way too many D1 teams, and the talent pool just isn't there. So teams hold a scholarship hoping for top level players to transfer/quit, and fall to them. I mean that's how recent MAC teams have found most success. That or having a coach who is so good, they are gone in two years. I'd argue we might have seen the max a MAC basketball coach might be paid, given the sports trajectory. Or we should have seen it.

The Bill Frack challenge has been put on the schedule with home games vs UMKC, Green Bay, and Murray State across the 19th, 20th and 21st of November.

Green Bay and especially Murray State are typically good.

I'm anxious to see what type of improvement we see out of the team this year. It amazes me the lack of success the program has endured since the Stroh Center was completed. We have a great facility, great budget, a big endowment type and a good school to recruit to. Finishing in the bottom 3rd of the conference year after year is extremely disappointing.

If Huger wants to leave a schollie open...I'm not going to argue. His job and roster...he knows what's out there and what isn't talent wise.

Wiggins/Worrell/Lillard is a great foundation. Turner/Caldwell/Frye added to that core? Yeah....that could be fun.

Looking at the roster...Wiggins is now 6-10 and 240? Hell yeah!
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Early returns are that Huger is a fantastic recruiter. I just can't get behind the idea that there isn't one player out there that can help this team. Especially with the growth of the graduate transfer rule. Even if you bring in a player just to be an end of the bench character guy that is a model citizen, to me that's far better then not using all the tools that the NCAA provides you. Not be able to use all your scholarships is a punishment they give you. Not something you choose to do.

globe, it is indeed possible to not find the right guy and choose to wait. You may not think that is so when looking at recruiting data bases all over the globe. With hundreds and hundreds of names- of a certain height or position for example.

I don't look at those but the staff does.

And they identify, evaluate and talk to many many potential student-athletes.

But for many reasons, a fit may not be right. And that fit may not be right based on a decision by a student-athlete. Nobody gets everybody they want.

Well maybe Kentucky :)

This staff values much beyond basketball too.

Go Falcons!

It's been two years in a row. That's not a good situation.

I stopped worrying about Akron, as long as they continue to destroy Notre Dame College every year.
