Painting the outside of the Doyt
Painting the outside of the Doyt
I drove past the stadium this morning. I noticed in the southwest corner they were painting the outside concrete. Going from the concrete gray look to a lighter tanish beige look. The side and the top was getting painted as well as the inside post / columns whatever you want to call it. Looks like they're were getting ready to paint the Elevator Shaft as well. They moved all the golf carts out and put them on the lawn. So I assume they plan on having the whole West Side painted before the game on Saturday.

I went by this afternoon and it definitely brightens the stadium up. Looks good, but I certainly doubt it will be done by the weekend.

Would still like to see handrails installed. Watching some of the elderly folks struggling up the steps... and even more unsteady going back down makes me wonder what BG is thinking. Bad enough i had to return to my pink seats, passing the sharp looking orange replacements for the old brown ones... One friend is reluctant to come back w/ me due to double knee replacements, feeling unsteady etc.

I don't think the aisles are wide enough to install handrails on each side. However a simple handrail up the middle of each aisle would be sufficient. It would also separate fans going up one direction and down the other direction. Like a center line on a road.

Ive seen center rails work just fine, including "sectioned" rails w/ openings so you can get to seats opposite steps you're on. Just dont get a redo of stadium w/o thinking of fan safety, much less convenience.

MIS has a rail in the middle of their aisles in the stands and they are probably more narrow than the doyt aisles. It can be done.

You would think that ADA regulations would mandate the installation of hand railings at DLP.Redwingtom wrote:MIS has a rail in the middle of their aisles in the stands and they are probably more narrow than the doyt aisles. It can be done.

Drove by earlier this evening.
West side (except for elevator tower) completed. Starting the east side.

I think it would have been cool if they painted the outside of the stadium orange instead of the tan color. Then paint the elevator towers either bright white or dark brown.

Why didn't they do this before the season started?

Hope they didn't buy the Behr Ultra paint+primer stuff. It used to be a decent paint option, but I did a couple rooms with it last year and that stuff comes off with barely a rub of anything on the walls...so annoying.Lord_Byron wrote:They were waiting for the Labor Day sale on paint at Home Depot.guest44 wrote:Why didn't they do this before the season started?
I think they have an even "higher" more expensive Behr paint now, and I have a hunch they made the ultra stuff shittier to push people into the more expensive paint.
I'm done with big box store paint. I'll be paying for name brand from now on and only (hopefully) have to do the shitty job everybody hates once instead of looking at year old painted rooms thinking how they could badly use more touchup/fresh paint.
