MTSU forecast
Looking wet again...mid-70s with a 60% chance of thunderstorms.

Re: MTSU forecast
I saw that as well. Mother Nature sure hasn't been kind for the home games. I wish she'd serve up what she gave Columbus in the season opener.
GO BG!!!

Re: MTSU forecast
I have been very critical of the noon start time, but if there's a chance of thunderstorms Saturday, the earlier start time might be a good thing...thunderstorms are much more common in the late afternoon or evening than in the early afternoon.

I'm predicting an announced attendance of 15,500. This will include 8-10 thousand "invisible" fans.

Re: MTSU forecast
A sloppy track would be interesting, MTSU is a pass first offense (they tossed it 60+ times against Vandy) so it could lend itself to a lower scoring game and more running plays.

Re: MTSU forecast
Really Apollo? You think we're only going to draw about 7k or 8k butts in seats?
Seeing as this is the de facto home opener for traveling fans, we have a half decent forecast, we have no local festivals to clash with, and no OSU to clash with (all of which hurt us last week along with a 1-aa opponent) I'd be hugely disappointed if that was the crowd. I think we draw 16k butts in seats

Unless there is a really good turnout by the students, I think you'll see 10,000 tops. Noon start, average opponent, poor performance by our team to this point, etc.

Tend to agree...I don't see this one drawing that big of a crowd. Not that it matters...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: MTSU forecast
Looks like the bulk of the rain will occur in the morning which is good news for the game, not so much for tailgaiting.
At this point I've quit worrying about crowds. We have a history of drawing well when the team is either successful or playing a recognizable opponent and that's about it. I honestly don't expect there to be much difference between last week and this week in terms of butts in the bleachers.

Not having people at the game is a big problem.....when you invest a huge portion of your budget into football, there needs to be money brought back in. This is why nothing ever gets improved for many of our teams...the department is too busy trying to figure out ways to make budget despite all the losses from FB, Basketball and Hockey to improve much of anything.

Re: MTSU forecast
Football and even the other sports for that matter aren't going to drive profit based upon gate. There's a reason why BG plays P5 schools for a big payday and requests donations for things such as the Sebo and Stroh Centers, along with fundraising campaigns. To suggest nothing gets improved for any of our teams is laughable. Compare a photo of the Doyt from 2003 to now and get back to me. Or, go check out the great locker rooms the hockey team has compared to what they once were.apollo wrote:Not having people at the game is a big problem.....when you invest a huge portion of your budget into football, there needs to be money brought back in. Re: MTSU forecast
FB isn't bringing in any money...any guarantees or tv money is quickly blown trying to make up for the cost of running the program. If you think gate doesn't matter, you really don't know MAC sports and how much money is spent on Football. You can not care how many fans we draw, but you can't say it isn't important.

I said "many" teams....no question FB, Basketball, Hockey and a few select Women's sports get what they need to win championships. Take a picture of the baseball field, softball field or soccer stadium...
Guarantee you that if you built baseball a top 3 facility in the MAC like Men's BBall has you wouldn't see that program finishing in 8th or 9th place every year. Football at least has done something with their facility upgrade and competed for titles.
