He does...quick reads and mostly accurate throws

Urban Meyer wasn't ever a coordinator either when he came here.

The ability or experience of having coordinated an offense or a defense are not a prerequisite of being a good head coach. But to find a guy like that you better know what you're doing in the interview room to figure out who that guy is.

Personally I'm a big fan of looking to steal the best 1AA head coaches. It was 2 for 2...

I missed the beginning of the first quarter, so I didn't see too much of the crap play. What I did see told me Knapke needed to be pulled. I'm glad they finally made the switch.

I cannot believe the refs missed the offsides call at the end of the 1st half. Between poor play by the players and inept referees, BG can't catch a break this year.

The issue with Jinks is he didn't bother to hire anyone WITH experience. He needs someone on his staff to be there as a guiding influence. And to be fair, Urban had plenty of experience as a position coach before getting his head gig. He's the exception to the rule though in my mind in terms of being plucked out of thin air.

This isn't wholly on Jinks and his staff, or the players, but the lack of effort tells me the players don't buy into whatever he's selling, and that's unsettling. You're gonna have a helluva time trying to sell this program to people after this season if he's back as the coach. First impressions are everything to people in sports.

At least NIU sucks too. But not as badly as we do. That's my positive spin.

Coordinators are assistant managers...head coaches are CEO's. Agree with hammb on the find the bet FCS HC you can notion.

FWIW...Jinks was an Associate Head coach at Tech before coming here. I don't think we'll can him this year or even next, so I hope he gets this thing turned around because we look dispirited and soft

I don't see another win on the schedule.

We have been so spoiled the last few seasons.

Yeah but wtf is an associate head coach? Sounds like a made up title that looks good on a resume.

It pretty much is. Sounds comparable to a bench coach in baseball.

Sonny Corleone was the Associate HC of the Corleone family until Don Barzini had him whacked

Hey no argument from me. Jinks only had a few years of college experience period while Urban had like 13. And he was definitely the exception to the rule.

I thought Jinks had a shot because big time HS football in Texas is a pretty big thing, but it's not college football. It was unsettling to me as well that he found no experience really in his assistants either. Brandon had a TON of experience coming up the coaching ranks when Urban hired him. Same goes for Beckman.

I knew this year was going to be tough losing as much talent as we did. This was FAR from a "MAC championship or bust" type season in my mind. But like you said the complete lack of effort, lack of any adjustments even in the games that were competitive, etc. The staff is just in way over their heads.

It's gonna take a long stretch of winning before I'm going to buy into Mike Jinks as a college head coach. I can imagine what the players are feeling....

In the NFL it is a false title given to your favorite NON coordinator assistant coach so that another team can not poach them for a coordinator position. I have no idea what the hell it is in college.

In a sample size of 1 that we have here I'd say it does little to prepare the guy for being the ACTUAL head coach.

And back to the FCA/1AA thing, the big advantage, to me is that they typically can bring along a lot of their staff as well. Guys that have all worked together and, albeit a lower tier of competition, done the same jobs.
