Buffalo over BGSU
Buffalo over BGSU
As I look at ESPN Joe Lunardi's bracketology I am shocked to see Buffalo being one spot out of making the NCAA tourney. I believe we beat them this season, have a better record in the league than them, are only half a game behind overall, and played just as tough as a schedule as they have. The only top 25 team they played was Conneticut who they lost to by 22(90-68). I don't think our team deserves to be considered a at large bid, seeing that we are, as a good friend of mine Tyler Sworden has said, "the best inconsistent team" in the nation. We can shoot 70% one half and 20% the next half, but never in the middle(exaggeration ofcourse). If Buffalo is going to be considered better than us, I would like an explanation. If I'm the only one disgusted by this, then I want someone to explain why I shouldn't be.

Re: Buffalo over BGSU
Not sure where you got this info, unless it's another "prognostication" of NCAA possibles... As to the Falcons, the MAC has been screwed year after year by the "Major conference bias" the NCAA selection committee has. The MAC this year, at my last look has 9 of 14 teams over .500, with about 3-4 teams IN EACH DIVISION still in a possible 1 thru 9 finish overall for the MAC tourney draw. It would appear that while there are no "super" teams in the league, ala KSU of Elite 8 fame a couple of years ago, there are a LOT of teams deserving of "consideration" of an at large bid...over teams in the "majors" with .500 conf. records, not to mention that these teams tend to play most if not nearly all non-conf. games on home floors, a big advantage to nearly ALL teams.YoeyCC wrote:As I look at ESPN Joe Lunardi's bracketology I am shocked to see Buffalo being one spot out of making the NCAA tourney. Bottom line....win out....win the conf.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
I wouldn't worry about it, because whatever Lunardi says about the MAC on ESPN won't matter in the end. The MAC will only get the tourney champ in this year, because like every year, the MAC will be one of the most underrated leagues. As usual, teams are all beating up on each other, and how good about 8-9 teams in this league actually are gets obscured in the mess of standings. The league deserves an at large bid, but I doubt it. Look for a slew of MAC teams in the NIT though. The MAC might MAYBE.....MAYBE get two teams in if Miami stays hot, makes it to the MACC, and loses. Miami is the only team I can see getting an at-large bid. Even with this scenario, I doubt it. If Miami wins the MAC Tourney, forget it, they will be the only tourney team for sure.
I couldn't believe the shoddy work ESPN did on their "tournament resume" graphics during the bracket buster. At one point, it said Miami(OH) losing at Kent State was a "bad loss", then I think it was Vermont they put up that had Boston U. as both a "good win" and a "bad loss"... how the hell does THAT happen?

Surrealism
Of course, the selection committee would consider Buffalo based on their performance as a whole, not on individual games against BG & UConn. Currently, Buffalo's RPI, which is a crude mathematical attempt to rate all D1 teams, is significantly better than ours and solidly on the bubble. Below are todays RPI rankings.YoeyCC wrote:As I look at ESPN Joe Lunardi's bracketology I am shocked to see Buffalo being one spot out of making the NCAA tourney. As of today, the MAC has 3 teams on the bubble (Akron, Buffalo, Kent) and one team as a lock (Miami). Amazing. I cannot remember the MAC EVER having so many teams ranking so well late in the season. What's even more amazing is that BG, UT, Western, and Ohio, none of whom are currently bubble teams, all have legitimate shots at winning the MAC tournament. This might be the year that we eat our bitter words and see more than one MAC team go to the tournament.

I'm usually with you. But with this being the "year of the mid-major" whatever the hell that means, there will be pressure on the committee to be more accepting to mid-conference schools. If miami wins out, their rpi should be in the teens and that should be enough to get in. That's a lot of shoulds and ifs and I would still wager a good sum that the MAC will get it's normal portion of 1 team in the dance. I just hope it's us....
