Urban Meyer wasn't ever a coordinator either when he came here.
The ability or experience of having coordinated an offense or a defense are not a prerequisite of being a good head coach. But to find a guy like that you better know what you're doing in the interview room to figure out who that guy is.
Personally I'm a big fan of looking to steal the best 1AA head coaches. It was 2 for 2...
We'll, Urban was a college coach for 13 years, where Jinks had a whole 3 years of experience when he was hired at BGSU.
I think we can agree this was a foolish chance to take, especially for a program that has been in the top tier of its conference 3 years running.

Kingston was trying to hire a PJ Fleck - a young, enthusiastic coach who would out recruit everyone. The staff is indeed recruiting very well. Problem is I'm afraid Kingston might have hired an Ellis Johnson.

It was good until the game started. They have a really fine stadium down there. It seats 61,000 and it was more than half full. Memphis is definitely further along as a program than we are in terms of fan and community support.
