If Only...
If only you all would of listened to me years ago we wouldn't be the laughing stock of the Midwest... However, BG hockey fans are among the most ignorant in all the land so I'm sure we'll all sing kumbaya and trust Bergeron to get things turned around.

Nope that's not me...I don't think our hockey program is a laughingstock...we're just a decent team in a bad league. I don't disagree that many hockey fans are delusional....they want so bad to see the program among the top teams in college hockey...It's just comical how we haven't done anything for 25 years in a sport that really isn't that difficult to compete in nationally. Win regular season title, tournament title, qualify for regionals....no excuse not to win in the WCHA.

I've seen you post this many times, and am only going to reply to you just this once.apollo wrote:It's just comical how we haven't done anything for 25 years in a sport that really isn't that difficult to compete in nationally. When you watch the school neglect and siphon from the hockey team for 30+ years, YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT WE WANT TO GET EXCITED when the team can finally be able to do something. Right now, it's extremely frustrating for those of us that know what this team is COULD be right now. That know what this team SHOULD be right now.
As for the other guy, it's only a matter of time before ODOT gets to his bridge....

I'll bring up the question from the past. What good uses could we get out of the ice arena? I'm seeing a parking lot, gymnastics center, any ideas?

Or we could pay me $100,000 a year, save the athletic department some money and pay me to coach this team. Couldn't be any worse than what we've got now.

He used to be IBleedOrangeAndBrown. Either everyone had him on their ignore list or he was banned. If he was banned then he needs to be banned again. Either way he's back on my ignore list.

When he was here before, he was using a campus IP address. Guess there's nothing better to do on a Saturday night than troll am Internet forum.BGFan wrote:He used to be IBleedOrangeAndBrown. Of course, only shows up when times are bad. Seems lonely and begging for attention. Definitely lower-management material. He'll have his nose shoved so far up his boss's ass it'll be like eating at the dinner table with him.

Being the moron that I am I forgot my previous password from years ago. Then I heard from a buddy that BG hockey was struggling like always so I thought I'd get back on and try to help you all see the light. However, when you have an ignorant fan base its hard to help people out. Keep cheering on those pesky Falcons, one of these days they won't be a complete embarrassment!

Just because the early stats show it could be a down year for BG Hockey, doesn't mean we're a laughing stock. There's a lot of parody in college hockey and any team can win on most nights, also any team could go on long winning streaks.
The ice arena is a great part of the university, and is a major interaction point the University has with the community, it's one of the vital campus buildings. There's so many community events and usage beyond just BGSU Hockey, BGSU club hockey, intramurals and PE. It's also one of the few athletic facilities (maybe the only one) that's used year-round by both campus and community.
I will add, I think universities that invest in on-campus ice arenas could get more out of them by offering women's hockey. Yes hockey is expensive and there's Title IX but it's always amazed me, that BG and similar schools don't have women's NCAA hockey when they spend and invest millions into ice arenas for really one team.

^Whats that, an honest conversation? That was an actual legitimately educated response. That makes sense. That's all I'm wanting us to do is reflect on the enormous costs that go into NCAA hockey and is it worth it when you have a pathetic program. Those are some great points as to why we should keep the program around.
When you have a number of sports teams that can't even afford scholarships for all their athletes, or jock straps for their catchers, then it's time to look at these things a little more closely...
