Some help for the Freak...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Can someone please tell me what the "Major" college hockey conferences are, besides the CCHA? Hockey East? WCHA? What teams are in these conferences? How many Division 1 hockey programs are there?

Just trying to learn as much as possible about this great game called hockey.
Thanks and BEAT THE CRAP OUTTA THE SPARTANS!!

USCHO, BABY!!!

Go to USCHO.com! Here are the standings for the conferences:
http://www.uscho.com/standings/?type=d1 That will show you all the teams in D-1 as well as how they are doing. Though some may disagree, the major conferences are the CCHA, WCHA, Hockey East, and the ECAC.

USCHO or INCH (http://insidecollegehockey.com/INCH.htm)are good sites for College Hockey!! Inch has a great segment on the introduction of college hockey to the NHL fans who are going through hockey withdrawal. http://insidecollegehockey.com/7Archive ... /intro.htm On this site, Jordan is mentioned under "Names you should get to know." USCHO is excellent about posting scores as soon as they come in and updating standings immediately!!

Hope that helps, Freak!!

SMASH THE SPARTANS!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

CCHA
WCHA
Hockey East
ECAC
CHA
Atlantic Hockey

The ECAC and Hockey East have been around the longest, then the WCHA, CCHA, CHA, and Atlantic Hockey.

Go to www.uscho.com and you can find out anything that you ever wanted to know about college hockey, and then some.

Actually, Hockey East was founded in the '80s by a breakaway group of ECAC teams that couldn't reconcile their desire for a longer season with the Ivy League contingent.

The oldest are WCHA and ECAC followed by CCHA which wasn't considered a 'major conference' worthy of inclusion into the NCAA tourney until the late '70s when. At that time the NCAAs was the Frozen Four only. Then, they opened it up to a 'play-in' game and invited 5 teams.

I was basing it on the length of time the older schools in the conferences had been playing hockey, for the most part (although, after re-reading it I didn't explain that). Conferencewise, you're correct.
