Nobody cares about BG football...

Post by BGorDeath »

Look at this forum. Nothing. Nada. The most recent thread is about Akron football. That is sad. I am afraid to say it, but it will be decades before the excitement exprienced in the Urban Meyer years returns. Numerous factors have led to this, but as mentioned before, it is sad.

I commented a few weeks ago in my thread 'Lack of Interest in Falcon Football'. I wasn't happy back in December with the hire. Wasn't happy with the assistants that were hired. Haven't been happy with the product on the field. First time since late 1980s I didn't come back for homecoming. Others in this site have more confident in this coaching staff. I don't. No adjustments made during game. No teaching. It's the Louis Orr of football. Pretty bad when the players are more concerned about wearing jackets and attempting to stay warm. Unfortunately I don't see any changes next year.

I care deeply about Bowling Green football. Every Saturday in the fall serves as a break from my job and everything else in the world that gets in the way of life and gives me an opportunity to "go back in time" and enjoy my old college days, see my old town, and watch each class of young men that represent my university improve their play and grow into leaders.

It will be a serous project to right the ship. The same thing began six years ago. Those young freshmen we saw in 2010 who were often lost on the field playing far more minutes than they were ready to play grew as a group year by year. Players like BooBoo Gates, Cameron Truss, and Jordon Roussos matured into leaders on and off the field right before our eyes, which allowed young men like Matt Johnson, Ryan Burbrink, Travis Greene, and Zach Colvin to take the next steps and thrive. I sincerely hope the current young players will similarly grow together and pave their own paths to greatness instead of being stuck under the expectations set by those previous classes.

Ok. 4 people care about BG football. However, when you have so few people at the games and on the boards talking about it, that pretty much constitutes nobody.

I was at the Northern Illinois game. I'm going by memory here, but I think they announced a crowd of about 6,000 people.

We aren't alone in our misery. Bowling Green is one of the most successful football programs in the conference. We will turn this around. We always do.

Great Post! Common sense and level headed comments....a rare commodity in this forum and a refreshing read.
Thanks!! :supz: :-D

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

There were 6,000 and change at Akron last Wednesday. I think there was another sporting event both nights.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

NIU announced 4790 according to the boxscore on BGSUFalcons.com.

Add in the 46,000 who watched the game on ESPNU, and you have over 50,000 that saw the game (although only 12,000 were in the coveted 18-49 demographic).

I was there when Moe Ankney's boys were eating hot dogs at the far bench on the eastside (when we used that sideline).
I was there when Gary Blackney was all the rage and turned the program around almost instantly.
I was there when the fat punter took the wind out of Gary Blackney's tenure.
I was there when Gary Blackney attempted to save his job with a thin J5 running goal line offense to save the coach's job at it almost worked.
I was there when Urban turned it around in 2 years to a job that Gregg Brandon would not leave voluntarily.
I was there in the heights and depths of the Brandon tenure.
I was there when Clawson rebuilt it and Babers ran with it.
God willing, I will be there when it happens again.

This all happened within 30 years. Drop the doom and gloom forever crap. The wins will come again and so will the losses. Deal with it! If your not big enough for the ride then come back when the Falcons rise again but it won't feel as good for you as it will for me.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

At least a boxing analyst (Teddy Atlas) isn't providing color for the Western Michigan/Kent game....glad the MAC is getting all this exposure on Tuesday and Wednesday's.

Atlas calling this football game is beyond terrible. But how about WMU and KSU tied at 21 in the fourth quarter?! Holy cow!

I definitely thought Kent could hang for a long time. Kent has found a running game recently and WMU just got gashed on the ground by BSU. I do believe WMU will ultimately pull away in this one.

I'll take a program that encourages and cultivates a loyal University following over one that gets "exposure" on ESPN. You can't develop interest locally when you play on random weeknights during the last month of the season. I could not care less that 40,000 people watched on ESPN9,000...in the end will get us nothing.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
