And you explain Navy how?
Navy is an anomaly. They run their system extremely well. Far better than any other program that runs that style of offense. No other program that employs that type of system has had any sustained success or run of league championships in recent memory. If that was the best system to win football games, you'd see everyone doing it.
I'm by no means against having a strong running game, just saying any offense that has a good run/pass balance is going to be harder for defenses to stop.
When I think of the best "tempo" offenses I think Baylor & Oregon. And both, at their peaks under Briles/Kelly, were very balanced attacks hitting with as much run as pass. In the case of Kelly, he didn't even rely as heavily on "air raid" concepts as Briles/Babers have; he actually let his QBs look at some progressions occasionally.
The Texas Tech air attack was about as simple for a QB as can possibly be. Tempo is a different animal altogether, but the passing concepts that Kingsbury runs at Texas Tech should take about 5 minutes to teach to any reasonably intelligent primate. Honestly haven't watched BG close enough to say whether Jinks is attempting those sorts of concepts vs a more traditional passing system. My inclination is that it looks more diverse in recent weeks than the pass game Dino ran.
The end result, IMO, is I love tempo. It should be a major weapon in any coach's offensive arsenal. But it is not a crutch, and it can kill you more than help you if you're going high tempo short drives. Going fast is a bad thing if you're punting all the time.
There is no reason we cannot run the ball out of the spread with some tempo. Thinking were going to be able to just run over people is a knee jerk reaction to having a good game against a the 118th team in the national rpi. No question our coaching staff really struggled to come up with game plans and making halftime adjustments this year, but thinking we should be running over defenses isn't realistic.
I don't think anyone here expects or said that. Should just been more of the identity of this team much earlier in the season given a veteran offensive line and senior running back with 2000+ career yards.
Re-read the previous posts....but I agree, Knapke nor Morgan should be throwing the ball too much. I personally think our routes are terrible. We don't force defenses to defend us sideline to sideline....too many vertical routes to receivers who aren't good at getting separation downfield. BG needs to be able to hit underneath and get some yards after the catch and occasionally take a shot downfield. We do it backwards and can't connect.

Agreed - Navy runs that style of offense because that's what their talent pool dictates. They will never get another Roger Staubach that can do it all at QB and play a conventional offense. That is the only way they can be competitive. To everyone else's point, you have to play the style of O to your talent level. I agree 100% he wanted to play tempo for the very reason he was hired by Kingston and we did not have the horses to do it. Morgan may get there, but he is not mentally ready to sling the ball around the yard and our receiver core is average at best. Thank God our hometown kid D. Wilson woke him up to going run heavy to salvage the season!
I see our team moving in the right direction at the end of this season. We should have 4 wins only 2 shy of being bowl eligible. I am disappointed, but we have to move on and cannot stay in the past. Next season is looking even better now that Jinks forgone this season several weeks ago and started playing the young players on both offense and defense. We will be young again next year but with meaningful experience for our young players on both sides of the ball. Remember every team in the MAC has been waiting to stump the Falcons. Well they took their best shot at us this year and we were in almost every MAC game we lost. THINK ABOUT THAT!!!!!
Next year should be a good year for BGSU. Every other team in the MAC will have lost their stud players and will be even weaker then we were. Both sides of the ball has played well the past few weeks. The only thing they need to do is stop with all the turnovers and penalties.
This should be a point of emphasis going into spring ball
Stress hard on takeaway vs turnovers.
Mental discipline.

Next year the team will still have some huge question marks. More WRs need to develop into playmakers, Miller has emerged as a reliable player but outside of that things are pretty thin. Wilson/Cleveland return at RB but replacing Coppet will be tough, hopefully Domer returns healthy and can have an impact. OL loses a few guys as well. Defensively the team should be in decent shape with guys getting some valuable experience this season under trying times. The secondary needs to improve in pass coverage however. I'm extremely cautiously optimistic that the momentum from the end of this season can be carried over into spring ball and fall camp.
