Recruiting already underway

Post by Schadenfreude »

Not even 24 hours since the season ended and it looks like Jinks already has a very good verbal out of Florida: DT Jamari Rouse of Deerfield Beach.

This could be a good offseason.

One can hope. He has a pitch he can use we haven't had to use in several years - you can compete for a starting spot immediately.

Recruiting got underway the day Jinks was hired and I don't think...other than quiet periods...it ever stops.

Yep. I know the staff has been out this way in NE Ohio on a few occasions during the season to check up on verbals and scout other players. Been awhile since I've been this interested in recruiting but incoming players have a chance to make a big impact.

Even so, I figured maybe the coaching staff would take a day off once the season was over to enjoy the weekend. Apparently not!

This seems like a good get. This is a huge offseason. Nice way to start it.

No doubt...I think they can finally come up for air in June or something. One advantadge we have this year is we can roll the whole staff out on the road and have everyone on hand for visits. We're not using a skeleton crew to run practice while the outgoing coach does his job interviews. Sure.. It'd be nice to say we're practicing for the "I'm sorry..WTF did you say" Bowl, but we have enough recent bowl history to sell that too.

Specifically...this kid looks like a nice get. We have three DT's in this class and all of them have some credentials. I like it...

I was on the Toledo forum and looked at a few threads. You might find it interesting they are talking about a 2/4 win season for 2017. Like I said before the top teams in the MAC will be where we were this year. All young talent playing major minutes.

I like what we have on both sides of the ball. I see a 7 to 8 win season and MAC East title and maybe a MAC championship.

Recruiting never stops. It only heats up more than it does at other times. Kids giving you a verbal means next to nothing anymore, but BG lost a really good QB in Chris Katrenick a few weeks ago. He is pretty highly rated by all services and it looks like he's now going to Duke. Also, TE Travis Koontz now appears headed to Toledo.
GO BG!!!

Back in 2008 I was at a panel with some of the coaches. Brandon was asked about recruiting and he said that recruiting is like shaving. You have to do it everyday or you're going to look like hell. To which the crowd erupted in laughter because NHL playoffs were gping on and next to Brandon was Paluch, growing his playoff beard.
