ND College game and some questions
Won by a lot.
5 in double figures including Dylan Frye. We have a solid guard unit.
Really missed a guy like Mayleben out there today to eat minutes.
1. When is Uju back?
2. What is going on with Turner's injury?
3. Fox received a scholarship. is that for 2016-2017 only or for both years?
4. Is there a way to get another big for the 2017 portion of this season? We desperately need one.

Re: ND College game and some questions
I'm not sure I can answer many of your questions, but I can comment on the game last night.
Quite honestly, ND didn't look like they belonged on the same court. From the first 2 possessions when we easily beat their zone down the court and hit wide open jumpers before ND could get their defense set. It didn't hurt that we came out hitting everything (they were all open, but still not typical for us). We were up by 20 before I knew it and the rest of the game was a coast.
Uju still has been wearing a very bulky knee brace over his track pants at the games. I cannot imagine he'd be playing with that brace on, so I'm betting he's a ways away yet.
Haven't heard anything on Turner's injury...Malik played last night and I thought they had said Turner would be back before Malik?
All athletic scholarships are year to year, technically. I would imagine Fox was given one for this season with no guarantees for next year.
I doubt we'd find another big this season, sadly. I was real disappointed with Worrell last night. He's played quite well this year at times, but every time he was in last night he was flailing away on defense and racking up fouls. To foul out against a team like that in the minutes he played? That's pretty disappointing.
Losing Mayleben definitely hurts.

Re: ND College game and some questions
The only comment I saw was Turner short term and Uju and Malik long term. At some point (not yet) you have to consider just redshirting them. As I have said before it would at least be fun to get some of those giant offensive lineman in the mix. They are obviously athletic even if they can't play hoops.hammb wrote:I'm not sure I can answer many of your questions, but I can comment on the game last night.

All I have heard is that they don't want Turners injury to turn into a season long nagging type thing so they are giving it plenty of time to heal before he plays.

I hope this doesn't jinx it, but Wiggins has made 14 free throws in a row and is leading the team in FT percentage at 813!!!

And not just making them. Has he hit the rim in the last few games?HoopsFan wrote:I hope this doesn't jinx it, but Wiggins has made 14 free throws in a row and is leading the team in FT percentage at 813!!!

Major props to the kid. He couldn't hit a FT to save his life last season and now he's stepping up to the line with nearly perfect form swishing everything.
Dunno if he can be an 80% shooter for the season, but if he can continue to be a legit good free throw shooter it'll be a major asset. Because his athleticism will guarantee he gets lots trips to that line.

Todd Walker said
Turner: day to day hamstring
Uju: knee injury that looks like it could be a while
Scholarships are technically one year but generally once you're on scholarship that doesn't change
I say,
1. I love Todd Walker, he is the classiest and most talented thing about BG sports
2. We NEED another big man. We are playing a 6-4 former walk-on at power forward.
3. I am wondering what happens if Fox has a schollie. I know the roster is organic but if Denny is back and Fox we are 1 over.

Re: ND College game and some questions
I don't think it's that uncommon to give a walk-on who plays a scholarship if you have one available, but I don't know that they'd commit to that for 2 years. Who knows...if fox can keep hitting 3s he's worthy of a scholarship anyhow.
I think there is a less than 1% chance Denny is back so I don't see how that's even worth a discussion. He played too late in the season. Even if he wanted to return I doubt the NCAA would grant him an additional year.

Re: ND College game and some questions
That seems like way to small of a number. I would say its 50-50 if not 60-40 that he is back. He played a total of 31 minutes that year. He played in a total of 3 games. The rule says that you can't play after the 16th game and he played in the 17th for 6 minutes. I would bet that is appeal-able/ If he loses an entire year of eligibility because of a former coaches mismanagement that would be a bit heartbreaking.
Re: ND College game and some questions
I would highly highly doubt he comes back even if he could. Louis Orr's mismanagement of a roster, has defined BG basketball for the past decade.
Re: ND College game and some questions
That's a big one to me. The kid isn't playing in the NBA. If he's already nearing a degree, unless he absolutely loves the game/teammates why would he even WANT to come back?guest44 wrote:I would highly highly doubt he comes back even if he could. I just know we talk about guys getting another year or whatever and more times than not they're not even interested in applying for one.
And I don't for a second expect the NCAA to make any sort of logical sense. They have a rule on stipulations for playing or it cannot be used as a "redshirt" year. He played beyond their deadline. If there is any precedent for the NCAA granting an additional year for a kid playing beyond the deadline, I'm curious. I don't follow it that closely to know, but I'd be pretty surprised if they wavered on their position.
But until I hear him actually say he WANTS to try and get another year I think it's moot. Most of the time these kids are ready to move on, and I don't blame them.

Re: ND College game and some questions
To me he seems like he loves basketball by how hard he plays and this is his last chance to play competitive basketball for his entire life. It's a no brainer that he comes back.
