Noticing someones tells on the playing field is far different then stealing someones signs from the bench.Flipper wrote:Here's an interesting question..if you notice that the NIU center looks left and right as he lines up before every pass play...do you key on that and adjust your defense?

Re: Betrayal at Wake
Videotaping someone's signs isn't real sportsmanlike....stealing their signs straight up is fine. If you don't like your signs getting stolen come up with a better system to disguise them. This isn't girls jv soccer....it's Division 1 football.

I would...that's good game awareness and can give your defense an advantage.Flipper wrote:Here's an interesting question..if you notice that the NIU center looks left and right as he lines up before every pass play...do you key on that and adjust your defense?

This is the best take on this.Flipper wrote:Any team that accessed this information and then beat Wake should forfeit their win...the coach should be suspended for a few games...at minimum and they should be fined heavily. I wonder about that, too. This is difficult to understand.apollo wrote:Be interesting if this Elrod guy ever makes any public statements....wonder what the motivation was?
Elrod is surely done in college football, right? I can't imagine anyone wanting anything to do with him now.
Re: Betrayal at Wake
Elrod has TWO attorneys and they both have advised him not to talk.

Re: Betrayal at Wake
Interesting group dynamic at work here...we all agree (with one sort of exception) that Elrod is a scumbag andWake was wronged. We all seem to agree that spotting tendencis and keying on them as a natural part of scouting is ok. The grey area where there's some difference is the middle ground...stealing signs. I think that signs are put out there in game and are "decoded" as such..are fair game. Stealing them any other way is wrong.

Re: Betrayal at Wake
If I were a coach I would use the big giant flash/picture cards and also have the backup QB signal in signs and when you bring a new player into the field have him bring in the real play being called. If a team can steal that play call and adjust its defense accordingly then more power to them.

Re: Betrayal at Wake
Yeah...nowadays sign stealing is more of a baseball thing thanks to the pictures/hand signal combo....it's more of a baseball thing and that gets settled with some chin music.
I think some grad student in Psych could do a Hell of a thesis analyzing the hidden meanings in some of those pictures. "Coach used a pic of a woman and hammer because he wanted to nail his mom".
Assuming he/ she or one of the 30 or so other genders people now self identify as is on a Freudian path....

Re: Betrayal at Wake
Why? Someone from Wake came to them. They didn't seek it, and they didn't do anything illegal to obtain it either. I hate to say this, but being nice in college football will not gain you points or save your job. Just ask Charlie Strong how it feels to take the high road. If Louisville had this info, they could have said something after the game, but its not their ship to fix. Bottom line, its Wake's issue that, A: they let this guy have access to this information, and B: They didn't adjust when it came to the game.Flipper wrote:Any team that accessed this information and then beat Wake should forfeit their win...the coach should be suspended for a few games...at minimum and they should be fined heavily. Couldn't disagree more, daspollak. Supposed someone stole a bunch of money and decided to give you some of it. Would it be ok to keep the money? No. And if you did, you would be committing a crime. Same thing here. Turning your back on something unethical is unethical as well.
And Wake did adjust their game plane against Louisville. Once they knew something was amiss, they took all their new plays out of the gameplan because they knew Louisville was aware of them.
