While the Stroh is far from perfect I would suggest it has attributes that could lead to atmosphere if they planned the game day more like a party or special night at a bar/club. The Hall of Fame area, the practice court and the green space out front between the parking and building all lend themselves to pre-game or post game gathering spots if an event is planned to compliment the game experience. Brew and BBQ night, local band, God forbid a Greek social, dorm social, or many other small events could be planned in these areas that would bring people and a little electricity. Like any facility it's the people not the steel and concrete that make memories.

The key is whether the department wants to reach out and get something going or not. I have no idea what the record of the Toledo Mud Hens is every year and as a NW Ohio Indians fan (starting my affiliation when the Mud Hens had Indians helmet night) I still attend games played by Tiger hopefuls because it is an event. I will continue to believe minor league baseball provides a blueprint for what needs to be done in BG for basketball and football but they aren't committed. WHY? The student fees will continue to finance the department despite attendance or interest in the programs.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Jimmy John's will get more college kids at noon today than students who even know BG has a basketball game. Saturday night games. Make it an event. No home hockey, no excuse.

We've had Saturday games at all different times. It isn't an event if they play at noon, 4, or 7. HEll it wouldn't be an event if it were at midnight.

Now if they had 10 cent beer night, maybe then it'd be an event (but please god get something that is actually DRINKABLE there).

This is the first year in awhile that we've gone back to noon tipoff times on Saturdays and we had no more people at the later start times either. As I said earlier, when we WERE putting thousands in the arena for BG games noon tip times were the norm.

College basketball is not college football. People don't plan their day around the game. They don't tailgate, etc. If the product is good the people will come. If the people come the atmosphere in the Stroh will be fine. I do wish they had kept SOME sideline seating for students, but I understand why they didn't. If the program is ever good again it won't matter. Although I do think our home court advantage was a lot better in the good ol' days of Anderson than it ever could likely be in the Stroh.

They aren't committed because they aren't criticized ever. They come in, get what they want from BGSU, and move on. It's been the standard since Krebs. Add in Twitter and a local media, who if given chicken wings will kiss their ass, and these people think they are brilliant.

I get what you are saying. But given the ability to count on two hands the students at game, my math says maybe they can get twenty if more are actually awake. At least initially.

One of the most dramatic effects of a large crowd, or communal/primal setting is the presence of trance states, which have been evident in nearly every culture from the times of the Greeks to the here and now ie the “Big House” “The Horseshoe” etc. Trance—ecstatic cheering and whooping it up, yelling loudly, rhythmic rocking, involves both motor and emotional -it provides altered states of consciousness; and while it can be achieved by a single individual, it often seems to be facilitated in huge communal setting such as rock concerts and sporting events.
The ESPN sellout has all but eliminated the possibility of the above mentioned as part of the college football experience at BGSU and the rest of the league.
The students are heading west to Main St by the 100s to get in touch with the Dionysian on a weekly basis and, about the only time they head east is to leave town -passing the Stroh, peering at with limited curiosity.
The Stroh is HORRIBLE from the standpoint of students coming together. Sometimes you can count the number of them on two hands in their little area at the end. At least the old place had them at both ends and across from one another – Anderson was a much better design in that respect. “We hit a Home Run” is one of the stupidest things ever to flow from the mouth of whoever said it. Thrown out at third sums it up better.

The only "homerun" in BGSU athletics the past 6 years was never paid despite making alot of people alot of money. I hope those people realize it and take care of him retroactively. His name is Matt Johnson.

Well...that is a little extreme...maybe dim the lights and and blast In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida for 10 minutes. Word gets back to the community and all the old hippies start coming out. Tailgating is followed by orgies in VW vans, Peace Love and Basketball Baby!
Worth a try ...nothing else has worked.

It doesn't help when there are no big home games and our non conference SOS is in the high 200s this year with 300s last year. I believe those numbers don't count our extra division 2 games either. Who was our biggest home game this year? Green bay or Murray St? At least with games like Cincinnati last year there were a high number of fans and students. We can't be playing Horizon and MEAC schools all the time. I've enjoyed the game day experience, but I've only also been to Toledo and FSU which were terrible.

Not the hippies...start blaring some house/techno, distribute glo sticks and pacifiers and declare BGSU a sanctuary campus not for people but for K, GHB and ecstasy....turn the Stroh into a gigantic rave.

The girls will be way prettier...which will inevitably draw better players.

The Animarathon anime convention at the student union outdraws any hoops or hockey game...probably combined. We could cosplay ...or better yet LARP the games. Instead of a weird guy in a robe yelling "lighting bolt" while he's waiving his arms. Denny could yell "jump shot" repeatedly.

A few of the pretend ones might actually go in

Possibly, but I'm obviously not alone with those views, as we've now seen.

The Stroh was to usher in a new era in BGSU basketball. The virus never took hold.
Missed the starting gun and never happened....wrong coach etc Screw Howard - bad idea. Would like to see Findlay come once every so often. They would bring some people.
I do like watching HS tournament games there as consolation.

I wonder if Chris Kingston is checking his phone constantly today, looking to see how badly he buried BGSU.

Nah. Only reason Kingston has to check his phone constantly is to see if those rat Tillers and their daughter who thinks she important when she's really not are trying to blackmail him anymore.
