The fact is one person was fired for an offense that didn't involve the police at all and the others were able to keep their job even after having stood in front of a judge. If Jans was warned previously and still choose to act that when, then cool fire him. But all the AD had to say was "we talked with him previous and gave him a zero tolerance policy, he broke it" . When this becomes cloak and dagger affairs it gives ammo for us message board people to speculate.
I didn't say there wasn't some kind of altercation...I said there wasn't an assault...in the sense that there was a criminal charge AND a conviction. The fact that they "stood before a judge" is meaningless...innocent people stand in front of judges every day...they plead not guilty and they system does it's thing...as it did in this case.

So far as the stuff with Jans goes...how much information do you need? They canned him..he didn't contest anything after getting fired...made no attempt to win any PR wars in the media or anything. He just took it and went home to Kansas. I think that says somehting...

Maybe I'm crazy. But, wouldn't a school like BGSU want to fight for the good coaches and not defend the actions of the not so good ones? That is what other schools do. I know this administration believes it's the moral high ground, but what good does this course of action do? The result has been a whole lot of losing. Jans decision not to fight is a long term earning potential one. He won't win in public opinion with a cellphone video, it changes everything. Nobody since the cellphone video of people in public started has ever won in public opinion regardless of the details. Especially when the legendary Joe Tiller's nephew is involved. Not fighting it and trying to repair image is his best move. BG's best move (if winning really is a priority) would have been to address the issue earlier, or find a way to fight for him. Instead, they opted to protect the jobs of the administration. As for why you would tolerate a grad assistant and charges, I have no idea. But I also have no idea why Mike Jinks was hired in the first place.

Now let's hear those moralist responses...............I'll check back after I watch the last place Falcons this afternoon.

See, Flip, even you are getting sucked into this "double standard" mess. You quote above that

Yet, you are quick to back up the accusations against Jans as true in an earlier post. Jans wasn't criminally charged. Jans never went and stood before a judge. So why is it that Jans is guilty and these coaches are innocent in your eyes?? Just because of the video? THE FREAKING BOUNCER HAD A BROKEN NOSE!! I would say that's a lot more "proof of guilt" than a cell phone video showing no negative reaction by the victim, especially when no charges were filed against Jans. Your logic makes no sense to me.

And as 44 said, Jans not contesting it was just a "regroup and move on" type of decision. I talked to numerous people, some knowing the law, some not, that agreed that Jans could have sued the University and won had he wanted to. For all I know there could have been some sort of behind the doors settlement between Jans and the University, just like there was between that bouncer who's nose got broken and the University so the charges would be dropped and everyone could act like nothing happened.

I've often wondered. Does Joe Tiller's nephew even have an agent?

Don't like it...don't read it.

Re this alleged "double standard"...nothing could be further from the truth. Jans didn't need to be charged..there was actual video proof of conduct and no one..himself included..disputed the facts as they were presented when he was terminated.

So far as what happened with the football coaches..the facts were in dispute from day one and while they were cited for assault..those charges were dismissed. When you are discussing someone's employment status you have to be careful with the terminology you use . You can't say that these guys committed assault and should be fired because of it because the legal system that decides such things says they didn't commit assault.

If you want to frame the argument by saying they shouldn't have been closing a local bar and they shouldn't have allowed the situation to escalate to the point that it became a physical confrontation...I'm good with that. You can then correctly weigh the pros and cons of keeping them. I would have been inclined to not keep them...but I don't have all the facts about the incident nor do I know how White's contract reads re cause for termination. Williams was a Grad student at the time and he was subject to a different code of conduct with what would presumably be a lower threshold for getting rid of him..The fact that's he's still here and under contract now leads me to suspect that this incident wasn't as serious as it was initially portrayed.

Regarding comments about Jans' behavior.... Sounds a lot like Victim Blaming? REALLY??? Just because she didn't "act" like she didn't like what he did or didn't file charges, does not IN ANY WAY make what he did ok!! It is NEVER ok to reach out and grab a woman....on ANY part of their body. PERIOD. ](*,) He deserved to fired ASAP. The administration did the right thing and did it swiftly, thankfully!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

It’s not victim blaming. I don’t know if it was accepted or not accepted. You don’t know if it was accepted or not accepted. You can sit there and take the moral high road and ASSUME that it was not accepted, but we will never know because the person never spoke up. For all we know they could have been flirting with each other!

We’ve all been in that position, at some point in our lives, that we were flirting with a girl. Maybe that girl is your wife now. And I would hope that we all knew our boundaries, but if we knew our boundaries, than a touch on the bottom (maybe while we were dancing with them) was acceptable. And don’t sit here and tell me that you’ve NEVER patted or grabbed a women on her butt because you’ll be lying.

We did not know what type of relationship Jans had with that female, if any. As I said, if it was unwanted, then fire his ass. But if there was some type of mutual want and acceptance there, then there was no reason to fire him. A suspension would have been adequate. Again, morally wrong because he was married, but not a fireable action. We can only assume and make our statements off our assumptions.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that FalconFanatic has never grabbed a girls butt. I don't think she would do such a thing. I believe her to be of the utmost moral character (OK, now that might be a stretch of the truth 8-) )

transfer...awesome!!

crazyfan...for Christ's sake...if this was some sort of innocuous gesture between a "flirting" couple...don't you think Jans..or someone close to him would have mentioned that?

How many times are you going to rehash the biggest hire/fire no brainer in BGSU sports history?
