I have a soft spot for Cleveland State - I am a member of their basketball band. When you go to a CSU game, they often have Student groups with activities in the concourse outside the arena (which would immediately become the best in the MAC), those big inflatable things kids run through and bounce on behind the arena floor, a dance team, chearleaders and a rockin good band.

The atmosphere is great, and with Mike Galrand coaching the basketball team (loaded with young talent), CSU is on the rise. They do a lot to make the game an event...and the women's coach is HOTTT

Since it is a Roger Brown thing, it won't happen....

Why can't we just stay at 12?

If we can get Western Kentucky and another program that adds as much to the MAC, I think it's worth going to 14.

I REALLY don't see the benefits of having Temple in the MAC at all. Yea I know they have a bball team that would help us out, but we're not doing to bad without them. I don't think I need to say anything about football. Lets just leave it at 12, and work on getting the lower schools better, which I'm pretty sure is happening right now. THEN we can talk about going to 14.

Not to be blinded by my rose-colored glasses, but I think the lower-rung teams are making some strides, at least football-wise. New coaches at Central and Kent had a positive impact this past season. New HCs at Western and Ohio will likely have a similar impact. Buffalo, well, they seem positive about things, but we'll have to see how that plays out on the field. Assuming the momentum continues, now is a good time to consider expanding. It keeps the conference vibrant.

I would go to UT over YSU in a heartbeat and that is saying something. Though it's a tough to say which campus you have a better chance of being shot at.

Another added benefit is to insulate the MAC from the sudden departure of teams to other conferences, which many a conference experienced this past year. If we were to lose just one team from our current membership, the MAC would no longer be able to have a championship game. Adding a team or two to football would simply be a means to protect the MAC Championship, should a sudden exodus of college teams occur once again in the near future. The MAC cannot afford the luxuries some of the BCS conferences have of raiding "lower-tier" conferences. Our options are limited to independents, the Sun-Belt and I-AA teams as prospective members. Best not to delay and secure some teams from this pool to ensure we can continue to have championship game.

How can any of you rip on Roger Brown? As an example of his wonderful sports journalism skills, he regularly uses his column to report the selling price for real estate transactions for random Cleveland pro athletes - you know, very relevant sports information.....

Roger Brown used to have the Cleveland radio beat not too long ago.

He has a way of writing quite a bit of whipped cream (there are lots of words, but no substance.)

Schad has it cold. He says nothing in that paragraph. And what talk radio? Triv? There's brain trust.
