Seemed a little too light-hearted in pregame to me. Most of the early game they were up celebratinggmartin wrote:Anyone watching the 4 suspended players on the bench. I would suspend them another game. Showing no emotion. Barely stood up during the time out.

Defense was impossible this game. We knew how short-handed we were so played a lot more zone early to try and protect against fouls and save energy. And our just shot 3s over our zone like they were free throws.Globetrotter wrote:Next year with Plowden and Turner we will have much more length guarding the wings. That should help that. I hope anyway.gmartin wrote:18 made 3's for OU.
Then by the time the second half started (and really for probably the last 5 mins if the first half) we had no legs at all.
You cannot play basketball with 6 legit players, only 1 over 6'5. And that's cointing one former walk on.
Wiggins couldn't throw it in the ocean from the line and couldn't get anything around the rim to drop either. Then he was gassed beyond belief and took some ugly looking shots as well. Alcegaire had a bad game from the jump... But at least he competed some.
I actually thought the trio of Malik, Caldwell, and Frye showed quickness and a willingness to pass that was refreshing early on. There was a crispness to their ball movement as well. And then ou put up 40 before we knew it and our guys were just gassed.
There is nobody you wanna play this short-handed but a team that is going to push tempo and shoot >50% behind the arc of you play zone? A nightmare matchup.
I'd actually like to see Folkertsma stick around. We have been desperate for a post body all year. He showed you can put him out there and at least not be completely embarrassed.

Was going to ask about Folkerstma. I was hoping we would do it. 10-15 minutes a game and that allows Worrell to play at PF more.
How about Redding? He seem ok? Should he stick around?
And what about those numbers from Malik? He has been buried on the bench. Then puts up 9-9? Can he contribute?

Re: BG vs Ohio
Malik will be fine spelling maybe 3-4 min per half. He would be used perfectly giving Frye and Caldwell a break before the media time outs and maybe if a guard is in foul trouble. He isn't going to light up the scoreboard but can be a good role player if used right. With Caldwell and Frye and Malik to spell them and a true shooting guard next year our guard play should be solid over next 3 years. I wouldn't mind seeing Malik get more playtime and take away time from Ish and Denny. I haven't given up on Lillard yet. He has shown flashes last year he can take a game over. So with our freshman guards and Malik going forward and next year's freshman class and Worrell and Wiggins we should have a better team next year even though it will be even younger. Denny, Ali and Alcegaire probably wouldn't even make EMU, Akron or OU starting roster. And I haven't even mentioned Turner or Uju.

Actually it was a decent crowd. Why do you print that crap?
Re: BG vs Ohio
On TV it looked very scarce but all they showed was one certain angle the whole time. Hammb thought 1000-1200 and he was there. So I was definitely surprised when I saw 2300 in the box score.factman wrote:gmartin wrote:Looks like less than 500 people in attendance. May have more OU fans at the game today

Re: BG vs Ohio
I would suggest it was darn close to half full. Football players in 102 and 109/110 got pretty excited seeing their teammates score. Ohio had a pretty good showing behind their bench and throughout the arena. Never really got a grasp on why the crowd was there today - no special promotions or anything that I know of. Maybe just curious to see the new lineup or there to support Coach Huger for demonstrating he runs the show.
Either way I was impressed we had a little atmosphere when the Grid Iron guys scored and Frye had a very good offensive game. DEFENSE on the 3's and stopping penetration were keys tonight. Scoring with low shooting percentages isn't ideal and you can't give up 90+ expecting to win very often.
New guy on PA today. Ok but I think his voice was getting tired by the end.

Maybe the 4pm tip helped the attendance.
Re: BG vs Ohio
We couldn't hit 18 three's if we had 60 attempts on open looks to do it. Ohio was 18-35 from three and BG was 7-34 with a football player making one of them. I'd give my left nut to have guys shoot threes that well for us. Ohio's two transfers (Kaminski from Michigan State and Simmons from Houston) simply shredded us. BG had no answers and still wouldn't had the Dipshit 4 not been suspended.gmartin wrote:18 made 3's for OU.

Re: BG vs Ohio
Huger called out Folkertsma post game...said he rolled to the basket and scored 6 pts in five minutes...what should that tell the kids on schollie who've been told to do that all year?
Awesome....

Re: BG vs Ohio
Surprised to hear that 2300 figure, but I've never been good at "guesstimating" crowds. What is our usual published crowd size? I thought yesterday was about the same as normal, but I thought we were under 1500 generally? Whatever, if there were 2300 people there, that's good with me.
A very nice lady (no doubt due to us having our 1 year old with us) saw that we didn't have a bobble head on our way out and offered to give us one of hers. Her entire family had them, and she gave one up for us. Major props to her for that. I was pretty upset to see how many people had stacks of 4 or 5 of them. I realize that every ticket holder was entitled to one, but really people, did you NEED to take home 4 of them? My grandma was pretty upset she didn't get one either; especially since she saw a ton of OU fans that had them.
Glad I ended up with one, it's in Dexter's room next to his Harold Anderson bobble-head. THis one was pretty sweet. BGU jersey and all.
As for the above comment, I would imagine that neither football player will be around the rest of the year, but that's just my hunch. I certainly wouldn't want to play Folkertsma for 10+ minutes a night even if he were around. There were a few defensive possessions where it was painfully obvious he was a football player on the court. That would get exploited in a big way if the opposition knew he was going to be on the court. As for Redding, I'm not sure. His jump shots in warmups looked hideous...low line drives clanking off the side of the rim, airballs, etc. Then he shoots one in the game and it catches the back of the rim and dropped...still didn't look good, but it did go in. He didn't have to play a lot of defense when he was in there, just kinda standing around since the game was long over before he got on the court. The 5 points was nice, although I thought sure he was gonna get loose to dunk on that break instead of laying it in. From an actual basketball skillset though, both guys looked like football players. I'd like to keep Folkertsma only because we're desperate for bodies, but I wouldn't expect either player to actually help us win games.
Still, it is so obvious when you bring in legit Division 1 athletes like that, versus the typical walk on types that sit at the end of the bench. My wife was moaning a bit about playing the football guys at times instead of Good, who is actually on the team. But it was immediately obvious who had a better chance of contributing. Hell, if you let them practice with the team, I don't think it'd be long before they might be better contributors than Fox....the more minutes Fox plays, the more obvious it is that he shouldn't be playing...

Re: BG vs Ohio
Caldwell/Frye/Hulu should get 95% of the guard minutes. See ya Ish and Denny....
With two suspensions Lillard has to be on thin ice. He's got three to play two of eligibility left. I could see him waiving bye-bye and transferring to another D1 program. If he bolts, we have two schollies to play with, no? Give me JUCO big and a JUCO wing and start making some noise for once

Re: BG vs Ohio
Like I said I haven't given up on Lillard yet but as I said Caldwell and Frye should get most of Ish and Denny minutes with Malik first of the bench. Those 3 for the next 3 years with our incoming class and Turner and Uju and Wiggins and Worrell will be a good core. Need a wing player badly too.
