Re: BG vs Miami - Battle for last place!!
Really confused about Malik. He looked like a contributor for sure. I assumed he was an obvious transfer with his lack of PT. The guy can play. I am not saying he can be a starter but he is very fast an athletic. I am imagining a press with him and caldwell and then length with Turner and Plowden and Lillard.
I was somewhat hoping Uju would redshirt but that might just be me being frustrated with a lack of size.
1 Caldwell 5-10 So-Cummings 6-0 Fr
2 Frye 6-2 So-Malik 6-1 Jr-Plowden 6-5 Fr
3 Lillard 6-5 Jr-Turner 6-4 Fr(r)-Fox 6-4 Sr
4 Worrell 6-8 Jr-Uju 6-7 Sr-Koch 6-8 Jr
5 Wiggins 6-10 Jr-Gadsden 6-11 Fr

I think Ali had a double - double tonight! 10 points and 20 turnovers! ](/img/ayziggyzoomba/58/58/54314911ff35ed959956620e68458f73.gif)
Re: BG vs Miami - Battle for last place!!
The rotation was near perfect tonight except we need a few more minutes for Rod instead of Ish. Although, it was against Miami I like this starting five a lot better. Rasheed was a nice bounce back and finally had some production
Re: BG vs Miami - Battle for last place!!
For the life of me I cannot figure out why Ish plays over Rod. Caldwell is a much better shooter. I don't know what the season numbers are because Caldwell had some horrid shot selection early on, but as he's settled in it's clear he's a better shooter. Ish can get to the basket better, maybe, but Caldwell can actually do something with the ball when he DOES get to the basket. He finishes better, and I think he's better at kicking it out. Most importantly he is FAR better at not dribbling himself into traffic and doing something crazy and stupid.
Last night Caldwell was the PG to start the game and 2nd half and had zero turnovers. And a couple nice assists.
In reality though our biggest TO problem yesterday was the bigs. In the first half they brought a quick double every time Wiggins/Worrell caught the ball and it was as if neither big had ever been doubled in their lives. It was disgusting how bad they were...mostly trying to make moves against the double instead of passing out of it. Or if they did try to pass out of it they waited until the double was on them completely and they couldn't get it out. It was pathetic. Much better in the 2nd half though, as we didn't just "feed the post" and let them try to work. Instead hit them off Pick'n'roll or after a drive. Most of the baskets our bigs made in the 2nd were relatively uncontested, and when they did contest they fouled.
The Malik thing is mind-boggling at this point. He didn't show much last year and then didn't get on the court all year so I just figured he had nothing more than athleticism (which I knew he had just from watching warmups). But man, he's given us high quality minutes the past 2 games. He's not a star, but he's a high energy undersized athlete. He's a pesky defender, even though he's giving up size to everybody he guards. He did get driven on once or twice and if his guy gets even with him he's done because of his size. It was also disturbing how easily they were able to shoot over the Frye/Caldwell/Malik trio to start the 2nd half last night. But offensively the ball moves and the players move a helluva lot more with those 3 guys on the court together.
The rotation was much better last night, but I still don't see how we win with how poor Denny, Ali, and Lillard have been playing. Denny's line looks better since he made his free throws when they were trying to foul (at least he can still shoot FTs), but he didn't get to the line at all based on being aggressive. And his shot is awful. And he gave Miami a second possession when he tried to pull a rebound out of Wiggins hands and ended up knocking it to the Miami guy. We definitely need to keep playing the guys that WEREN'T suspended, but we need those other guys to actually come in and play worthwhile minutes if we're gonna ever actually win. And right now we cannot count on them to give us anything...

Ali actually leads the MAC in assist to turnover ratio.

Well he is definitely going the wrong direction.Globetrotter wrote:Ali actually leads the MAC in assist to turnover ratio.
Over last games his ratio is 1 assist 2 turnovers. Another couple games like last night he won't be leading the league anymore.
Re: BG vs Miami - Battle for last place!!
Actually he no longer leads the league. A guy from Kent, last name of Avery now qualifies for the lead.gmartin wrote:Well he is definitely going the wrong direction.Globetrotter wrote:Ali actually leads the MAC in assist to turnover ratio.
