Re: NMU
I just can't do it this season with hockey. I am less stressed watching the basketball teams who have legitimate injury and talent concerns right now. The fact that we have the talent and cannot string three good games together in a row is way more serious of an issue than what both basketball and the football teams are going through. It's like we have a bunch of head cases on skates out there. Just play the game and do your job, the rest will follow!

End of 2, BG down 0-1. Shots are 27-12, BG.
The goal appeared to be the result of an offsides play. Coach Schutte appeared to have asked about it, but the ref refused to review it. In fact, he quickly skated top center ice and dropped the puck faster than any faceoff so far this weekend.

Got swept by a bad team. Only 2 conference games remaining, against UAH.
BG had 38 points and in 4th place. Alaska HAS 5 games in hand and only 8 pts behind us. Lake Superior and FSU are 9 points behind us with FOUR games in hand. Any of those 3 teams could catch us. We were picked to win the league and we could finish 7th!!!!!

Re: NMU
cant say we didn't play hard. Doubled their shots, but nothing to show for it. I just don't understand why we never have a guy in front of the goalie or in the slot looking for rebounds. It seems we have people on the side of the net not doing anything.
Bring back the glory!

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2 ... ep_for.php" target="_blank"The goal they scored was a complete microcosm of the season," Bergeron said. "We don't even give (goalie) Chris Nell a chance, we've got guys standing beside their guy. Certain players can't be on the ice.
"We had more good chances than (Friday) night, but we didn't make life as difficult for the goalie as I wanted. Not to take anything away from him, he's as good a goalie as we've seen.
"The team needs a rest mentally and physically from each other. It's been a difficult season. When you're elbows deep in it it's hard to put a thumb on why."
Explains so much going on the past few seasons.

I believe the line many of us are thinking of currently is from the movie Waterboy.

Re: NMU
When I spoke with Berge last summer I got the impression that some guys aren't really responding to his coaching style. From what I've been told it was a big reason why Hawkins decided to leave before the season, along with his injury. I'm concerned about the future of this program...you have to wonder if Berge has taken them as far as he can and there needs to be a new voice behind the bench. Obviously with him signing a new deal that isn't likely to happen soon, but it mkes you wonder.
These past few campaigns have been very disappointing. Results need to be better given the competition they face every night.

Valleau, Ferrari, *Mingo, Ernst, Hawkins. All good talent on good teams that, with exception of Ernst, left within a month of the season starting, or during the season. Coach needs to realize he hasn't accomplished nearly enough to be a "my way or the highway" coach. If the players aren't responding to his style of coaching, he needs to change his style. It's what good coaches do to get the most from their team.jpfalcon09 wrote:When I spoke with Berge last summer I got the impression that some guys aren't really responding to his coaching style. One slightly down season and calls for the coaches head. I can't be the only one who finds this slightly ridiculous. And of the players listed, the only one I'd possibly pin on the coaches was Hawkins, who in alot of ways didn't fit the mold of the program, as far as effort, conditioning etc. Vallaeu had problems with academics and wanted hockey without school and had the chance to go to the AHL. Mingo had effort and attitude problems, couldn't stay in the lineup, and frankly I was never impressed with him on the ice anyways. Ferrari had issues beyond anything you can blame on the coaches (see his quick defection from the OHL after leaving BG). It's easy to complain about not keeping guys that could make contributions but it's alot harder to build a strong effort program of with guys who aren't on the same page.
Re: NMU
When you're picked to win the league and have a losing record with 2 league games remaining, I'd hardly consider that "slightly down." There's a major problem going on with this program. Inconsistent play, the continual struggle to win games after Christmas break, the players leaving the them early, etc. It all adds up to needing a change made. If coach isn't willing to step back (figuratively), evaluate himself, and make changes to the way he approaches this team, perhaps it's time for him to move on. If he waits too long, the team will no longer want to play for him.jbakerifm wrote:One slightly down season and calls for the coaches head. I can't be the only one who finds this slightly ridiculous. And I'll add his comments after the NMU game. The team needs a rest from each other?! It's February. The last push before the playoffs, and your team needs a rest from each other? At this point, the team should be functioning as ONE. Defensemen shouldn't be running into each other killing 5 on 3s. Players should know where every other player is, and where they are going. THAT'S what makes a championship team.

Re: NMU
Lots of issues related to the program this year, but we have the exact same winning percentage this year since Christmas that we had before Christmas. and if you look back over 5 years, you'll see that we have almost identical winning percentages before Christmas and after Christmas. The past 2 years, we've struggled after Christmas, but the 2 years prior, we were much better after Christmas. Our final year in the CCHA, we had a dramatic turnaround after Christmas.
I don't think there's a philosophical issue that's caused 2nd half struggles within the program lately. I think there's a group of guys in the locker room that may not be taking to the coaching the way some of our teams did in the past.

Re: NMU
C.B. took over a program on life support. Had no financial backing. Admin was about to pull the plug. Funding started coming in and C.B. was there to steer the ship. Well the ship has sailed. He has done all he can. He has lost his players. The players have lost their fight. It's time to Row The Boat and find a new guy. That may be difficult since CB still has 4 years on his contact.
