Liberty is moving up to the FBS, and is doing so even without a conference affiliation (for the time being). Liberty's move up marks the 20th team to make the jump to the FBS over the last decade and change.

Re: Liberty is also moving up to the FBS
I remember when we played them some time ago with a lopsided score. When they came out of the locker room, they were so much smaller. I am 6' and not many of their D or O line was not much taller than me. They must have a strong recruiting program.

I remember playing Liberty when I was at Methodist College (NC). They were a non-scholarship program playing mainly D-III programs. That was allowed back at that time. We also played Davidson although they were D-I for basketball. That was over 20 years ago, so I hope Liberty got better than they were back in the 90's.

Teams like this moving up is not good for BG. All these teams moving up is closing the gap between mid majors and the FCS which doesn't help our case with the Power 5. Good opportunity for Liberty since they have been better the past decade, but I'm not sure how they'll do talent wise and financially if they stay independent.
Re: Liberty is also moving up to the FBS
Liberty's campus and athletic facilities have (some still are) undergone a massive renovation and building project. If you haven't been on campus in the past decade and went back now you wouldn't even recognize the place. Their football stadium underwent a really nice expansion and renovation project that would put it right up at the top of the MAC. Their new baseball stadium would blow any MAC team's venue out of the water, it's not even close. Same could be said for their softball stadium. And their current head football coach is a familiar name - Turner Gill. Liberty clearly is seeking a conference, and even though the Sun Belt still hasn't invited them, I wouldn't be surprised to see them end up there eventually. EKU was a target of the Sun Belt before they picked Coastal Carolina. But I could see a combination of Liberty and maybe James Madison landing in an FBS conference at some point soon. JMU's stadium expansion/renovation makes their one side look like a P5 school. It looks nothing like you'd expect an FCS stadium, or G5 school for that matter, to look like (the other side is still the old grandstand).

Ex-Buffalo Bulls coach and flash in the pan Turner Gill is the head man at Liberty.
