The "student" crowd was BAD!!
I thought the "student " crowd was horrible last night. Other than the "animals", band, cheerlaeders and dance team, I counted about 85-90 students in the student section, giving anyone close, the benefit of being a student!!!!! 20,000 students at BG and the 1st place women draw a whooping 85 students for a game against the other division leader does NOT make any sense to me.
It is TOLEDO Saturday........drag you roomates out of bed and away from the TV and show the women some support.

I agree. I dont know what post I read it in, but someone said the crowd was good for a womens game. What 700 people. I do not call that good with the two best teams playing in the MAC. Heck, Ball State - Toledo drew 1500 people down in Muncie for their game. We need to have at least 2500 at the game on Saturday. No excuses. Students!! you get in FREE!!!
Part of the problem is that there have been a couple of games lately when some students were cheering, heckling the other team a little, or getting on the refs for a bad call like the always do and an usher has told them that if they continued they would be asked to leave the game. If I were a student I don't know if I would want to go to anymore women's games either if I had to jsut stand there and keep my mouth shut. It is like one of the students said at one of the games, "For men's games it is the "House that Roars" but for women's games it must be the "House that Snores"", how can there be any type of atmosphere at Anderson if the students are allowed to act like students? I'm not for yelling obscenities but I don't see anything wrong with getting on the refs if they blow a call or giving the other team a little mild ribbing.

So, 85-90 students actually showed up and your reason may account for another 100 students (probably generous). So where are the other 19,000+ students? I just don't buy the excuses of homework, classes, and etc. I saw the stuff students were turning in when I taught at BG and believe me that I doubt they missed b-ball games bcause they were busy doing homework or other academically related excuse. The students as a whole seem to be disinterested in a great basketball team for some reason or another. Probably for similar reasons we see people not showing up for men's hoops and football. It needs to be a BG social event, not just a game. People should be saying, "you didn't go to the game last evening, man you really missed out." :rant:BGSU96 wrote:Part of the problem is that there have been a couple of games lately when some students were cheering, heckling the other team a little, or getting on the refs for a bad call like the always do and an usher has told them that if they continued they would be asked to leave the game. With a college degree, it doesn't take long to count 85 people!!!
I have missed one home game this year, and I think if you ask ANYONE who knows me, that I am INTO the game
When you have a degree, you can call me out. Were you at the game?
Oh......I see! You don't have a drivers license yet or what?

While I would never miss a game of that importance without a really good reason (if I was a student), I did enjoy watching at least 200 students participating in/watching the intramural bball tourney that same night. The particular set of six games where I was watching was at Perry Fieldhouse. This was the coed league and another set of six games was to follow. I spoke to the student refs and I guess games at this time of the year in the several leagues stretch from 7 PM or so to almost midnight on several nights. The students seemed to have a blast.
I got over to the game and watched us beat the Herd and a couple of the intramural players made it too for a portion of the second half.
Not making excuses at all; just pointing out that there are lots of things happening. We need fans- no doubt the women have earned our support.
Beat Toledo; hope to see you there. Particularly those who post about us needing support and living within three hours of the arena. Go, cheer, win.
For those who post about women's bball= boredom, come to the game and help us beat TOLEDO. We play TOLEDO for gosh sakes. We are GOOD. Just go! Help us win. Small investment for some who are close; big return to the university. If you don't think women's athletics is beginning to make an impression on high school students, then you haven't talked to many high school women athletes lately. Or their parents.

Let's Get To These Games Everyone!
Michelle and I have only missed one home game and I don't feel that "boring" accurately describes this team. There's nothing boring about Freshman sensation Kate Achter floating into the lane and making a runner or Liz Honegger hitting threes as well as inside shots. Ever watch Carin Horne? She's not boring either! It was worth the price of admission just to watch the Herd meltdown at the end of the game with their two technicals, first on Shepherd-Hall for body slamming Kate Achter, then their coach getting t'd up for mouthing off to the refs all game. They may not dunk, but I certainly wouldn't call this team "boring." I love this team and look forward to every game!

Boring???? Get your head out of the sand!!
The Falcon Ladies are NOT boring by any stretch of the imagination! Sure there are no dunks, but actually if you've been paying much attention to the men as well you would know that there haven't been much dunks latley in their games either. Curt Miller runs a very uptempo team here. It is not boring. I'll give Hammb one thing about the missed bunny layups. I hate em' too , but besides that their still very fun to watch. Does the Athletic Department have ads for the games in every class hall or the Union or something besides the BG News? We need to make sure that students are very aware of the games the ladies play. It seems somebody in the AD is doing a piss poor job advertising the ladies basketball.
I don't buy the "everyone is doing homework or is in class". They can't all be!
And, where are the rest of you Anderson Animals that have shirts collecting dust in your dorms? Metzger has sold roughly 55 shirts or so and only 6 or 7 show up at the game Wed. Also no SS anywhere! :coo-coo: As far as I'm concerned the Sideline Squad is a joke now! They are no longer a force even in men's games. I believe that the Anderson Animals now outdo the SS in numbers and in show of support. Its important for you guys that are students to constantly remind your fellow students about the games and incite them to come and enjoy some fun basketball! You Anderson Animal students can do this. Come on!

Ok, I agree with you that the SS doesn't anything special for men's games. But what makes the Anderson Animals so much better? You guys do one cheer, and it's that funny or effective. 'you will miss, you still suck'. There are only like 8 of you so only about 8 of you do the cheer. The rest of the students don't ever chime in. No offense, but basically you guys are just regular fans with nice t-shirts.
