This is a big blow to next season...

The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Friedman leaving
I don't think this really caught anyone by surprise. A high draft pick typically is gone by the end of their third year.
Much better for the decision to be made in March instead of August.

Re: Friedman leaving
I was surprised he can back this year. I assumed he was gone at the end of last season.
Good luck to him with his Professional career.
I assume this now guarantees that Justin Wells will come in this Fall along with Carson Musser, who was always slated to be in this Falls class.
Next big question is what Nell does. I'm sure he will have some Free Agent offers.....does he take one or come back for one more run at ending BG's NCAA tourney drought.

I think he comes back to complete his degree and make one more push for the WCHA championship.AZIce wrote:I was surprised he can back this year. I assumed he was gone at the end of last season.

Bring back the glory!
Re: Friedman leaving
No surprise on Mark leaving, but still a big blow. Top 2 defensemen gone is going to be interesting. Plenty of icetime for whoever steps up though.
I see Nell staying. His start to the year, while completely understandable, and certainly offset by his play down the stretch, might dampen the offers he gets. It'll be interesting to see though.

Re: Friedman leaving
He officially signed today. Here's the story with quotes from Mark and Berge.

I think you may see 1 or 2 more yet before it's all done.

Re: Friedman leaving
While this hurts our short-term chances, it's helpful in the long run. Berge, Ty, and Barry can honestly make the statement to recruits that coming to BG helps your professional prospects -- just look at Friedman (and possibly/especially Nell since he came undrafted). That's a powerful message to take into a recruit's living room.
This is also a sign that our programs health continues to climb. So it's very good news while at the same time it still sucks.

Here's the story about Nell. Includes quotes from Berge and the plan of who will be coming in next year to replace Sholl and Nell.

Pohlkamp was a senior but he signed with the Toledo Walleye today. Good for him.
