Spring game reactioms ?

Post by Class of 61 »

Just got to wondering, since no one has posted anything yet: anyone go to spring game? And if so, what are your reactions? Any QB's stand out? Most looked as if stats were respectable, but curious to see what our AZZ " expert scouts saw.
Also, looked like it was better attended than any i've been to. True or not? Weather obviously cooperared, ( still watching the 6+ in. Of snow melting here in 7 Hills).
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Here's my 2cents. With the format that the chose to select players had a mixture of starters vs 2nd string etc. At times it looked awkward as you would imagine with not having the players side by side as they have become accustomed to. With that said, Scotty Miller picked up where he left off, Josh Cleveland seemed to have gotten faster in the open, Guiton is going to be a threat. I was impressed with Morgan, forget, and loy at QB. They were putting threading the needle on passes, long balls were there. If all continue to perform we could very well have a QB controversy brewing. Both defenses were hitting, not giving up much and running to the ball. D backs broke up some passes, not much yardage after catch.

The only one that was obvious was Dorian Hendrix who resprained an ankle from a week ago. Scott Miller took a major hit in his back, came off the field shaking his right arm but didn't keep him out.

They drafted teams which gives the defense a huge advantage. We know they may struggle to put together an offensive line so things certainly got watered down when they tried to have two O lines. As the game when on the defenses blitzed more and more and were able to get tons of pressure on the QBs.
-Scottie Miler had a great game.
-Morgan scared me on a miscue where he made a terrible decision throwing the ball basically straight up for an INT.
-O Lines struggled.
-Cleveland's burst on his one big run was very impressive.
-Guyton should make a big difference.
-Doege was the best looking QB, BUT he had Miller and Guyton with him the entire time.

Did Domer play? Or is he still recovering?

Five key players should return for fall camp- Clint Stephens, Jamari Bozeman, Marquis Zimmerman, Blake Lucky and Domer. Lucky had been playing well in an H back and special teams role and is a tough kid. Matt is capable- when healthy- of truly adding to at RB. Obviously, Clint and Jamari are proven. Marquis can catch a football, turn and go and had a decent true freshman year.

There are always injuries and bumps. Bumps like the hit Scotty took Saturday can be overcome. Injuries like Clint had in spring game last year cannot.

Go Falcons!
